I liked him. He's solid. I enjoy the broadcasts because of Mayock though. I think he's the best in the business.

Totally agree. It was addition by subtraction yesterday for the commentators. Hicks was great because you didn't even notice him and Mayock was excellent as usual.

Aside from other flaws, Hammond did not even care enough to get the ND player's names right half of the time. If you can't bother to do that, then you don't really deserve to be there.

Fair point ND Hoosier. There is always room to improve...but now we have Mayock and Hicks when just a couple years ago we had Haden and Hammond. Hard for me to complain when I think about how much better it is now.

I was waiting for some respect for the real "chocolate thunder", Daryl Dawkins. Anyway, I got a laugh out of it. Mayock and Hicks are a huge upgrade from Hammond and Haden. We hated on those guys for so long, at least someone paid attention and made an upgrade!

they are probably told to push the NBC Sports brand/coverage as much as possible. Lol ive heard ESPN guys discuss the Bachelor during live games before. It was kind of relevant though as Mayock is a member @ Merrion.

i was pretty disappointed this game with mayock...he called several times players that weren't in the game or even on the team...badger making a tackle...oh yeah from utah...and there were 2 other incidents..hicks was fine, but when i hear his voice i can't get the thought of him commentating golf...this will take some time...STILL wish they had an ND guy...reggie brooks,bettis,rocket but now that quinn was just cut...who knows switch to broadcast

I dont think having a ND "Homer" in the booth would be very beneficial. Reggie Brooks is kind of awful on those UND.com shows.

No idea what Hines Ward was doing in SB though, the guy knows nothing about ND.

Mayock and Hicks will get better as the season goes on and they get to meet and get to know more of the players. You can't blame them if they aren't 100% up to date on the ND roster. Mayock alone has about 50 pans in the fire with all the media/scouting work he does.

I thank goodness that we have two such pleasant and gamespeed-intelligent guys doing the broadcasts. And the complete lack of anti-ND bias that we used to hear with former announcing jerks relieves a good portion of the stress of worrying through the game.

I have only one quibble: some of us don't have the "sudden eyes" that other football watchers have and could use some help with our defensive personnel. Many plays occurred where the actual tackler was not mentioned by name. Almost never was the supporting play of a non-tackler-but-play-influencer named. Mayock is REAL good at football analysis --- he could easily do this.

We need Mayock to channel his inner Chris Spielman on gameday defensive play analysis.
