The first half will be for the excessive signings with the knowledge they will be sold in the future. They are still refuting that he accepted money himself.

It's going to be the first half against Rice. It doesn't matter, he'll get owned this season. No way he's mentally or physically ready to play after this offseason.

Well, it looks like you are correct. The NCAA is saying their conclusion is he didn't take any money.

I agree, very well said. In fact I was watching PTI on monday and thats exactly what they were saying (its not manziel's fault, its the stupid rule) and I thought exactly what you posted. Combine this with what Steve Spurrier said is going on behind the scenes and it might be coming sooner than some think.

Agree as well.

I've always been under the opinion that the first step for any meaningful change to college football has to start with the removal of the 3-years from high school mandate from the NFL to enter the draft, replacing it with 1-year removed.

Without that, any other fix would either be temporary that wouldn't yield any long-term benefits or they would need to remove "Amateur" from the equation.

One of my concerns is what happens in the FCS, DII, and DIII? How can you justify paying players in the FBS and not elsewhere? What about Title IX? (Which I've always had some problems with, but that's a different story) I just feel that the NCAA cannot allow players to be paid due to those reasons, which is why I fear a break from the NCAA would be the next step by these conferences. If that were the case, what does ND do?

Its a few posts above yours.

It appears its for excessive signings with knowledge that they will be sold.

Do they even have fake logic for how that's better than "selling autographs" or do they just think we're too stupid to think that far?

This cloud is going to hang over the entire season.
But I am going to pose a very serious question....
What if he somehow has another magical season and wins back-to-back Heismans?
You know this thing isn't going away, and I think eventually some evidence will actually come out that he took money....that would be bigger than the Bush situation....

I could see it happening. All the journalists want college players to be paid anyways, so I could see a close vote swinging Manziel's way as the voters' way to collectively give the finger to the NCAA.

No way he wins the Heisman. So many off the field issues besides the autograph thing.

Why do you think that? He's had off the field issues since well before he started last season and still won it. It will be more difficult without that huge OL from last season, but still manageable with the stats he puts up. I think he'll probably be Top 3-4 with Yeldon and Braxton Miller.

The difference is the general perspective. Before it was "look at this kid, look at how much fun he's having, look at how easy it is for him!" Now it's "look at this punk, look at how he's flaunting the rules, look at how he dodged a violation."

He could play twice as good as last season and they still wouldn't give it to him. You have to remember that he would be the second person to win 2... Ever. His image would be a main fixture of Heisman lore forever. Tebow was the kind of kid they'd pick for that, not Manziel.

He's gonna get smashed anyway so who cares?

And once again, the NCAA sits down to pee. What a pathetic organization.

They all....ALL take money!!!!! The good ones get more!! If we're gonna stick our heads in the sand and not see that? IDK what to say.. It's an un-talked about thing amongst all the athletes. It happens and nothing will stop the boosters and there little white envelopes that they make magically appear in random places!! I too hate it and think in some programs it's more of an issue than others but I'm pretty sure the NCAA cracks down on the things that affect their image more than actually cracking down on the crime!! Manziel wouldn't have been able to play until they resolved the issue! = costs NCAA $$

Hey, I have a wife, 2 daughters and a female dog. We all sit to pee in our house, LOL. It's actually quite relaxing, but I see your point.

I'm pretty sure that no one was handing Pat Dillingham envelopes with cash in them.

I have to sit when I pee on doctors orders. I'm not allowed to lift heavy things.

So you have gold toilet seats that you're advised not to lift after your wife has placed it in her preferred position???

To me the biggest fall out from this will be how much more schools will stretch or break the rules for a competitive advantage. Except for the PSU issue, lately the NCAA has shown itself to be nothing more than a a big bully that runs when someone calls his bluff.

As far as the NCAA changing the three year rule on when an athlete is eligible to turn pro, that's an NFL rule and not an NCAA rule.

I'm not a big fan of the Tide, but I will be rooting for them one weekend this season.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I hope the AL defense makes his life a living hell for 60 minutes.

And in the PSU case they didn't even punish the right people. I hate the system of punishing current players and coaches for the violations of past regimes.

I'd rather see Manziel sprain an ankle in the first quarter, then his backup come in and whoop Alabama for all they're worth. I'd never wish a severe or career-ending injury on a player, but Mr. Football could stand to sprain an ankle.

I wonder how many people who hate him only call him "Johnny Football" because they can't spell "Manziel."
