Any of the other old-timers on here seeing visions of a second coming of Bettis and Watters?

It wasn't just Bettis and Watters. Holtz used four with Brooks and the Rocket in '88. At one point there were five former ND rushers in the NFL with thousand yard seasons.

We had Anthony Johnson and Tony Brooks, Ricky Watters, then came Rocket and Reggie Brooks, Rodney Culver, we also had Dorsey Levens for a year or so...boy the late eightees were good years.

Consider the backs ND is getting in relation to the current and last o-line classes. Every time I do I get giddy. We will have 4 starter level RB's and ridiculous quality, size, and depth in the O-Line. Add to that a couple/few mobile QB's. The next four years should be fun.

Ah, those were the days. And even though multiple running backs shared the load, it didn't prevent any of them from reaching the NFL after their education at Notre Dame was finished.

MaxPreps 2013 Preseason Mr. Football from each state - MaxPreps

Kevin Askeland, Maxpreps
7/25/13

With the 2014 high school football season set to begin in just a few weeks, MaxPreps takes a look at the Preseason Mr. Football in each state. Players selected are not necessarily the No. 1 recruit in the state, but they are among the top recruits and/or candidates for All-State and All-American honors.

ND's Elijah Hood, NC, and Nic Weishar, ILL, both selected.

North Carolina
Elijah Hood, Charlotte Catholic, RB, 6-0, 200

The Player of the Year by the Charlotte Observer, Hood was one of the leading rushers in the nation last year as a junior with 3,309 yards on 278 carries with 47 touchdowns. He'll play for Notre Dame next year.

Yes and lets not forget goal line situations where Jeff Burris, a high school RB converted to defensive back at ND was a monster RB and had 11 touchdowns on 29 carries. Drafted in 1st round.

I just found out he is now the assistant DB coach for the Miami Dolphins. Leaving Molnar at UMass

RB is such a punishing position it is better for backs to share the load and save their body for Sundays. I have heard in a number of RB recruiting threads where a feature back system is not preferred for this reason and the fact the carries are all or nothing.

Splitting carries extends your career substantially and really does not detract from draft value as long as you are splitting with other quality players.

Jeff Burris was one of my favorite players growing up. If rivals was around when he was a recruit he would have been a slam dunk 5*

He was ridiculous. I was in middle school while he was in high school but of course we went to all the games. He had over 3500 yards and 38 TDs his junior and senior years. and was ND's top Rb recruit for that cycle. Ironically enough, Northwestern's mascot is the Trojans.

Down 1 spot on Rivals to #14 overall. Basically, he and Nelson held their ranking but got jumped by guys who improved their stock.

Report from Carolina saying that Hood will decommit soon and UNC will have inside track.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Here is the tweet:

Expect 5-star running back Elijah Hood to de-commit from Notre Dame soon. UNC has the inside track.
— Mark Seidel (@MarkSeidelWFNZ) August 20, 2013

Someone I don't know also cryptically said on ISD before this tweet that "expect distance and girlfriend to visit ND again very soon." Upon further review, looking at post history and reading what others have said, he's clearly an insider.

And then there was also a rumor on a UNC board apparently too.

He also about a week ago got off Twitter and Facebook... and I think he used to have ND pics, etc. up there and those are all gone. Seems like this has legs.

This truly might be the final straw and I give up following recruiting at all.

The weird thing is we ALL called this on his original quotes after visiting Carolina and "dropping" ND from consideration because it was too.... and then we talked ourselves out of it because of his commitment, comments on Power Hour, Twitter recruiting for ND, etc. Seemed like he was all-in.

Tuitt de-committed...Lynch did...oh wait, that didn't go over too well...the sky is most certainly falling right now...Would suck, just because he has been a very vocal recruiter for us since being on board...whatever he does, I'm sure it'll be a fight until beginning of January since he's an EE candidate right?

I always think when a recruit does the type of "recruiting" that Elijah did right after committing he was trying to prove to himself he actually wants to be at ND... It's frustrating. Well see how it plays out.
