I sure hope you do not expect a Floyd like WR with every class. You will be disappointed quite often if that is the case.

I am very pleased with this WR class. There will be a lot of passes caught from this group.
You mean to tell me that all receiving records are not gonna get broken every 4 years? ****

1 -- Floyd wasn't "Floyd" before he was Floyd

2 -- You are quick to acknowledge the WRs of 2013 may not pAn out but in the same breath, Max is automatically Better?

If you think Floyd wasn't a Floyd out of high school then you're sorely mistaken. He was one of the best in the nation..

I'll happily wait until I see that the staff actually wants SuperMax on offense, in which case I'm sure that an athlete of his quality will be productive. But to say that our current 2013 crop of WRs is less than stellar is, in every estimation that I've heard about them, just not true. Onwualu and Robinson may easily play as frosh --- even Daniels did not do that. Fuller and Hunter both have widespread praise.

One other thing: Kelly is going increasingly Big at "WR". His offensive passing strategy seems to be an analog of "three yards and a cloud of dust" rushing football --- go Five Big Wides and either wall off the smaller defenders of block their brains out. In that sort of scheme, power/ size specimens like Robinson and Onwualu become even more "fit" for what he's doing. [And, yes, I know that Coach is no extremist and will happily feature Floyd's and Tate's, even TJs when he can get them {as he has just done with Brent}].

Cheers and all the best for Max wherever he lines up.

I'm fine with Redfield cross-training, but I don't think he'll be needed.

DD is going to be a stud this year. He was in no way overwhelmed in the NC and that should give him the focus he's lacked.

As far as impact, I see Robinson ending up the biggest get in this class. He will be to college football what Shane Battier (puke) was to college basketball- the very talented glue guy and statesman for some sick teams. I doubt he'll come flying out of the gate, though.

I think Onuwalu is going to get a lot of minutes over his career because he is clearly an incredibly hard worker with good talent and size.

I think Fuller is going to be super-consistent and will start to be a mainstay once he gets his coat of armor. He is our next TJ Jones.

Tori Hunter Jr. was the MVP of the Opening is my wild card and his Dad is STILL an All Star. Chances are he'll find the field as well.

I agree. I see Brown averaging around 50 yds per when safeties are trying to defend the run.

Great point. We are seeing more TEs lining up in the slot, C.J. Prosise has moved to WR ... physical WRs are all the rage at ND right now.

While I agree with your opinion that Redfield will not play offense this year, your logic is really flawed. If the staff's game plan called for Redfield to play offense in a certain week, they would simply change his number.

ya, that is not very persuasive... Ill stick to my point. Besides, we dont really need Redfield on offense, I would much rather him be the next in line for the starting safety spot.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but Max really reminds me of that U$C safety that Golden Tate flattened while going into the end zone. His name is eluding me right now. I hope he stays at safety.

I met Rey Maualuga and Taylor Mays at a bar one night after a Reds game last summer. I literally had been watching those clips of Mays and Tate earlier that day. Told Mays this (and that I was a current ND student.) He remembered the plays in detail. Was very humble about it haha. Rey then bought me a shot. Chill guys. Oh and Rey's arm was about the size of my waist.

Golden Tate was probably the best pure, natural athlete that I can remember playing for ND. That play was just awesome.

Some of those catches where his hands clamped the ball like a darn vice and came down with it while people did chin-ups on his arms were just insane. But his best trait was his balance. People always got a rude awakening trying to tackle him as if he was a typical 190 pounder. He dragged people almost every catch.

Plus his name is just awesome. It's so fitting he ended up at Notre Dame.

Does this say more about our serious talent at safety, or Redfield's serious talent at offense?

I'd LOVE to believe that Kelly/Diaco/Elliot are comfortably satisfied with our safety play for this year, as it was clearly our defensive Achilles heel last season [Farley was too often out of position biting on the wrong routes or just slow to pull the trigger that I remain concerned --- not about raw talent, we're loaded there, but about instincts and deepback generalship].

I hope they have him concentrate on defense. It would be great having a Bobby Taylor like athlete in the backfield for three or four years. This kid has the potential to be one of the best safeties ND has ever landed in my opinion.

Think it also has to do with what Kelly was saying about trying to get all the athletes the team has now on the field in whatever fashion possible.

Not sure but it does say a lot about the athletes that have been brought on board that we can even have a discussion like this haha

He also said maybe Jaylon Smith plays RB, DOG, or ILB. His point was he has a lot of good athletes in the freshman class and they are going to push to get on the field whichever way possible
