Which freshmen do you think will have the biggest impact this season?

OFD just published their list of impact freshman for 2013. Redfield and Smith are locks, Rochelle and Deeb likely.

This article only discusses the freshman defenders.

For a moment I thought he forgot that by Gameday Corey Robinson will be 7 feet tall, shoot lightening bolts from his eyes, and Will make one handed, catch TD passes in the end zone while still standing on the line of scrimmage.

Forgot to specify "on defense" in my description. OFD published its offensive impact freshman list earlier.

Are you teasing me, BGIF?

I gotta look at in terms of depth for each position. The front runners would obviously be the highly ranked players: Smith, Bryant, Folston, Redfield, Luke, Rochell, but what is happening in front of them? OL prospects are out of the question, very talented bunch, but if I see a freshman Oline on the field this year, something either very bad or very good happened (injury or blow out).

-Redfield and Luke are probably the least likely to get much PT this year outside of ST (unless an injury occurs). Sorry, but the starting defensive backfield will be Russell, Jackson, Shumate, and Farley and I dont see that changing unless an injury happens.

-Rochell is the next least likely with a stacked 1st Team in front of him. However, rotating the guys up front is a possibility to keep them fresh, still I dont see him playing much.

-Smith is next and this one bothers me a little. This kid may just be the best athlete on the team, but how do you replace the two starters at OLB (Shembo and Spond) for their senior season after having a great season last year? Smith will see the field, but its hard to guess how much.

Bryant and Folston are the most likely, but only one of them and they will have to compete with each other and learn the playbook quicker than the other. Very good shot one of them sees plenty of PT.

My pick: James Onwualu. The kid is an athlete and the WR position is easier to learn than most other positions and they sub in and out quite often

Smart, well thought list. Takes into account depth chart in addition to athletes abilities and level of readiness.

I agree on Onwualu, but strongly disagree on Luke. Purest CB we've had in a long time. I like our DBs, I really do, but Cole and Max are simply a cut above, and that talent will push them up the depth chart,,,,,,, and they will see minutes this year. Cole, I think earlier than Max. Bryant definitely gets minutes, a lot of minutes as the year progresses. Robinson and Folston will get a little bit of PT as well. I don't think Jaylon see the field too much, but I would not count him out. Love that kid, but I think the competition will prove out and experience will prevail in that area.

If they see good playing time in nickel/dime then I will wonder what happened to Lo Wood. I would think it would be Jackson, KVR, Farley, Shumate, Wood/Luke/Redfield on passing downs

Believe it was Whiskey, that said that 247 or other, stated that "sources" said that Cole was likely to see minutes early in the season, and likely would be at least in the 2 deep by mid to late season... or something like that.

Not that I always buy into what 247 is saying, but looking at Cole's film compared to others (our current 2 deep) coming into their Freshman year, huge difference IMHO.

I'll say it again that I think our starters looked a lot better than they are simply because of the front 7. I think Cole and Max are the two most talented DBs we've landed (assuming they stick) in a long long time. I think this is one of situations where talent will push and overtake experience.

Wood could be part of a rotation with Russell and Jackson, similar to a couple years ago. With Butler or Luke specializing in the Nickel.

In the beginning of the season, yeah definitely. But KVR and Jackson held their own against Robert Woods and Marquis Lee. They also played well against OU (even though stats don't show it), they prevented Jones from scoring any touchdowns.

And their backup QB.

This.... in a big big way....
Also, when you don't have to worry about anything else (due to the DL), your job becomes more one dimensional and to an extent, easier to look good....
I'm not rich in Vbucks, but I'd wager the 2nd part of the year's INTs is more than the first half's, and that our frosh are a big part of it.

I love K Russell, but he mainly kept Marquise Lee out of the end zone via pass interference.
