Croke Park set to host ‘multiple’ American football college games

nothing I (or many on IE) haven't heard before, bar the mentoin of Bama coming over (which will never happen lol). Penn State-UCF seems like a goer but everything else in this email is speculation. TBH, Croke Park is probably too big for Penn State-UCF as it can hold 82,300 (compared to Aviva Stadium which held 49,000 for ND-Navy) but its something to keep an eye on. You can't exagerrate how big of a deal the Emerald Isle Classic was here, it was really well put together and marketed.

I will get to a ND game in the motherland. Mark it down. First though, Senior Day this year.

It was one of thebest sporting experiencing of my life. The band in Temple Bar, the crowd, the blowout. Only setback - no official ND merchandise for sale.

Come back soon.

Was that an E.U. Customs issue?

I've bought Offical ND gear and books sold by the ND Bookstore on opponent campuses over the years. Selection was limited but so were the ND fans. At '02 FSU game in Tallahasee there were about 5,000 of us. I stumbled into the ND "bookstore" set out on folding tables in a gym on campus. ND sold almost everything there. IIRC, they took orders to ship when they got back to S.B.

probably a Customs issue alright, they would have to pay VAT on anything sold too I would imagine.

I'd say so. It's almost impossible to get stuff delivered from American websites to Europe. The official clothing website needs an American delivery address and phone number.

Off topic Mike but are you involved with the Waterford Wolves AFC or have you been to any of their games this year? Great to see a club spring up there and looks to be doing well

ND vs Bama in Ireland would never happen.

THey are talking about Bama vs Team A and ND vs Team B in different years if it happens.

NCAA isnt going to lose that money to Ireland.

I don't like the idea for all kinds of reasons, but mainly: you don't want to play Saban if he has loads of preparation time. This game would surely be played "Game One" and you can't let him prep for two+ weeks.

2014 Penn State vs UCF in Ireland sounds awesome (thumbs down, fart noise)

*This is what I don't get: if we are so adamant about promoting football overseas, why do they send teams like the Buccaneers to London every year? I don't approve of overseas games, but if you're going to have 'em go for the gusto!

I would think it would make more sense to play schools with a solid international reputation (Stanford, UCLA, Michigan) in Ireland rather than schools that aren't really recognized outside their state, let alone internationally. Since this is a putative match on foreign soil, football reputation takes a back seat.

yep Bama means pretty muchnothing to the Irish public and their fans wouldn't travel in great numbers. Needs an east coast school prolly BC is best choice.

Buford Wolves football to play 2016 game in Ireland | Gwinnett Daily Post

Buford (Monty VanGorder's HS) will play in Dublin in 2016 the same weekend BC takes on Georgia Tech.

Though matchups haven’t been set, Buford is one of three Atlanta area teams in the showcase along with Marist (which typically has a handful of Gwinnett residents on the roster) and Blessed Trinity. They will match up with one of three teams — out-of-state foes Belen Jesuit out of Miami (Fla.) and St. Peters Prep out of Jersey City (N.J.), as well as international team Prepa Tec from Mexico City. Buford’s past success likely factored heavily into its selection — the Wolves have won three straight state championships, as well as seven of the last eight in their classification.

St. Peter’s Prep football will head to Ireland next fall, first N.J. team to play overseas - NJ.com
