I strongly believe they are one of the 25 mosty talented teams in the country... QB and secondary being obvious issues...

but I don't know if they (or anyone for that matter) can survive the schedule with the issues they do have and finish with the proper respects... time will tell

It's been a long time since ND has been ranked correctly by many of these publications. I ain't even sweating it. This team though record misleading is getting there. You can't tell me they aren't close. The team is in better shape and is in a better system now than even when Kelly started. 4 solid to possibly great running backs will make us believers again!

USA Today Top 25 comes out today. Here is a teaser:

@USATODAYsports: Unranked in @USATODAYSports Coaches’ Top 25 at the end of last season, but ranked today: USC, TX, FLA, Notre Dame, AUB.

Meh. ND at #24 is easily defensible, particularly with the inclusion of Auburn, Florida, and Texas as well.

Agreed. If ND wins 8-9 games as most here are predicting then they'll be right around there. Makes sense.

We lost Floyd, Lynch, almost all of our secondary, not to mention our best runningback. On top of that, our QB is going to be either A) Tommy Rees or B) a first-year starter. I have no clue how we can be ranked.

The logic of this post is how conflation works.

Last time we lost a great receiver we won a NC. (Floyd)

Our best running back by stats last year was Wood, and we are so stacked at running back with Alford coaching them, as much as I loved the job Jonas did last year, I have to scratch my head.

How many NC's have been won by first years? How many Heismans?

As far as all the Michigan stuff; see? I told you everyone loves Hoke. If he ends the season at 8 I will acknowlege I am wrong with my reservations. But they won't. Rating them between 5-10 is one of those actions that people perform, how shall I say? Putting them selves out there because the risk of being ridiculed if they are wrong is greatly outweighed by the chance of a payoff for a, "Boom, I knew this shiit!"

West Virginia at #11? I don't understand that one at all.

What is hard to understand? They went 10-3 and absolutely obliterated Clemson in the Orange bowl. Geno Smith returns alongside Travon Austin. WVU just joined the Big 12 a conference which, besides Texas and Oklahoma is not known for strong defense, IMO 11 is about right.

as in they should be lower???

If by lower you mean #25-#12 then Yes. I think they should be ranked lower.

Clemson was a much better team then how they performed in that bowl game. They didn't even show up... I think it inflated WV stock just a bit.

Their Orange Bowl showing was one of the most impressive offensive games I have ever witnessed.

I agree with Phil that Florida is underrated. I don't think their schedule is that tough though. I think they lose two or three of LSU, SC, UGA, FSU, TA&M putting them higher than 23. I think the outrageous cupcakes on their schedule are going to give them time to get up for their big games.

they return a dynamic qb and they have a coach that is the right man for the job there...don't have to play def in big 12 and they return a lot of players

unreal! they scored whenever the wanted and wherever they were

Paraphrasing Colin Cowherd, they would have scored a 100 if they didn't take the foot off the gas.

this would be about the only thing him and i would agree on

I get where you are coming from. I guess I didn't buy into their hype, and that's why I didn't expect to see them at #11.

Yes, they had a historical win against Clemson. But the barely beat SF and Pitt and they also had 2 crappy loses. ( I think they lost to syracuse last year and Louisville beat them at home).....

Maybe they deserve it. I dunno, I just didn't expect to see them that high. Thats all. NBD.

Didn't that happened recently?

Remember when Josh Harris was running things and they nearly beat Ohio State? That was almost glorious.

Michigan will be lucky to win 8 games this year. I am predicting a 7 win season with losses to Bama, ND, O$U, MSU, and Nebraska.

It will be interesting to see if they come out firing like they did at the Orange bowl. And then maintain it all season.

they are going to be what oklahoma st. was(also partly because of Holgerson)...great putting points up, subpar def and watch out for a game they shouldn't lose
