I have been listening to a lot of Tupac for the past month. Which is funny considering my favorite rapper will always be Biggie.
A question for you guys: I have looked into concerts I can go to this rest of this year, and was wondering if any of you guys have seen the following groups live:
Tame Impala
Roger Waters
MGMT
Local Natives
Brit Floyd
Phosphorescent
The National
Sigur Ros
Lumineers
As for stuff I am listening too:
I haven't been getting into new stuff recently, but I've been listening to Edward Sharpe, Phosphorescent, Dawes and Wilco mostly. I have listened to most of these guys before, but I am talking about less popular songs by Sharpe, Wilco and Dawes really.
Songs:
Wilco- Born Alone
Dawes-If I Wanted Someone
Dawes- Just Beneath the Surface
Dawes- A Little Bit of Everything
(I already loved When My Time Comes, so I'll exlcude it)
The National- Lucky You
Edward Sharpe- Man on Fire
Edward Sharpe- That's Whats Up
Edward Sharpe- I Don't Want to Play
Edward Sharpe- Up from Below
Lord Huron- Time to Run
Phosphorescent- Song for Zula
Also interesting is NPRmusic's station on Youtube. They have a series of video's called "Tiny Desk Concerts" were bands play 3-4 songs (normally not their popular ones though).
I've seen the bolded, including The National four times. I'm a big fan haha
If you happen to smoke the ol' jazz cigarettes, Tame Impala will be an out-of-this-world experience. I put them up there with Arcade Fire as a concert experience. Arcade Fire, Portugal. The Man, and Tame Impala just blow your mind. They are a must-see, plus they're from Perth, Australia so it's not like they'll be around that often; if you get the opportunity, GO!
MGMT is alright. I would compare them to Alt-J in that they don't get out of their element when they're live.
Local Natives are very good. They opened up for The National eight days ago and were solid. I'm a much bigger fan of their first album though, so I wish they would have played more of that.
The National, it depends on the concert. I've seen them in 2010, 2011, 2012, and eight days ago. It depends on how close you get. When we saw them in 2010/2011, we were far away and honestly you wouldn't be missing anything. But the last two times I was close (~10th row, and 2nd row), and it was very, very good. They end the concert with an acoustic performance of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks and get the crowd involved and honestly it could make a grown man cry.
1) I've been in love with Song For Zula! I've just been playing that, The National, and Lord Huron for seriously the last two weeeks haha
edit: jesus christ now I saw that you put down Time to Run too. Marry me?
2) Tiny Desk is great. Tiny Desk and KEXP's YouTube channel are the best live sources of music. If you want to see a band really stretch the creativity, the Take Away Shows are where it's at. My favorites on the Take Away Shows series are Yeasayer, Bon Iver, and Beirut. They're all pretty good, but nowhere near as clean as Tiny Desk or KEXP. Honestly the KEXP DJs have the best job in the world haha
3) I'll check out the Dawes and Edward Sharpe stuff, thanks! I saw Edward Sharpe in May 2012, great show. Have you check out his solo work, Alexander? Good stuff there too.
