No thanks. It's one thing to commit to a school and change your mind and then commit to a different school (our roster is littered with guys who have done that). But to commit to a school, then decommit, then recommit to the same school, and STILL want to take visits, and we're still 8 months from NSD???
I haven't even followed the kid closely, but there are too many red flags to even consider him IMO. These guys just don't usually make it at ND...
I pretty much agree with your post, but don't forget he de-committed the first time due to a major coaching change, which is reasonable. In this case, the new regime probably understood his recommitment wasn't solid but they pressured him into it to committing again to build some momentum for a class they were just starting to construct knowing he was going to look around. He's a big in-state kid for Wisky.
I think our staff has backed off for a reason, likely seeing the same (and more) red flags that some of us see.
The Bama offer is simply to put a little heat on Carter and a few others who are their primary targets. I would be shocked of Saban takes this guy in the end. The old saying "if you're shopping so are we" applies here.
So Bama offered a DT from Wisconsin to put pressure on their top JACK LB target? That makes sense.
I understand the coaches have to play his cards and i understand when a coach try to make some pressure for an early commitment or things like that, but i will never understand how a coach can offer so many scholarships when he is always hurried with the 85 scholarship limit.
It's very simple, Euro. In the same way we see so many players not honor their 'verbal' commitment, some college coaches will accept a verbal and then push the player out when bigger targets commit. Some even do it when a player is on scholarship. The polite term for this is roster management and Saban is the best roster manager in the world.
In June it's "You're a great fit for our program. I can develop you better than anyone for the NFL". In December, months after the player has committed and bigger targets have also signed up, it's "Son, I am not sure our school is the best option for you. It's probably best you start looking around".
