So less than 48 hrs ago he was setting up official visits to his top 6 schools (w/ hometown Miami not needing an official visit) and today he is committed? That's a solid verbal.

My first wrong IE Oracle :(

Apparently Muschamp asked him if he was joking. Everyone was totally shocked by this.

Al Golden is unable to retain the local talent, only Tracy Howard and Mcdermott.
I agree with this. he has grabed a few elite local talent and some good players, but he has missed on a lot of elite local talent. I.E. Sony and especially Mathew Thomas.

The canes have not had a "lock" on the south fl talent since the early 2000s even back than guys got away every once in a while. I think Golden has done a pretty good job keeping some quality kids from down there since his first class in 12. The canes don't have the "swagger" they used to and Golden is recruiting guys with a little better character than the days of old. He landed 2 5*s in 2012 (Bush, Johnson) and 4 4*s just from south Florida. 2013 with NCAA penalties looming (so it seemed) he landed 4 really solid 4*s from south Florida. 2014 so far he has 3 4*s including McDermott and a STUD RB in Yearby who had been previously committed to FSU. Talent has gotten away from him but he has recruited well nationally (for Miami) and from what I'm hearing he doesn't just kiss the *** of every recruit in S Fl just to keep em in town. As much as I hate Miami I have to say AG has done a pretty good job and once he shores up his D they could be a force to be reckon with in the future....if the almighty NCAA doesn't whack em, which they have seemed to botched already.

Yeah. Miami's back on the rise, it would seem (pending mass destruction at the hands of the NCAA, of course).
I don't know that it's fair to expect them to "lock up" south Florida, recruiting-wise, especially with more recently-successful Florida and FSU so close, and with other programs like us dipping down there, and especially if you're going to apply some standards to who you recruit, as Golden seems to be.
It's not like back in the day when no one else was recruiting down there. And yet they still win their share. They also seem to always be in the mix for kids from New Jersey and elsewhere in the northeast, and pull some good ones, like AQM last year.
I think Golden will build them into a dangerous program - and one that could significantly dampen our recruiting ability in South Florida. So I'm always rooting for him to get a better job.
