I recently watched 2 of Steven Soderbergh's movies: "Magic Mike" and "Side Effects." I liked them both and certainly recommend seeing them. "Magic Mike" isn't anything like it was marketed as. It's not a zany male stripper comedy, even though there are funny moments. It's really about trying to make your way in the world and finding meaningful connections with other people.

I won't say much about "Side Effects" because in describing it, I feel like I'll give away things. I'll just say it's very involving in how it starts off going one way and then moves in a different direction.

Soderbergh has a unique style that usually, but doesn't always work (e.g. naturalistic dialogue & lighting, leisurely pace, character-driven plots). His style works in both movies and makes them better they than probably would have been in another director's hands, especially "Magic Mike." I'll give them both 7.5 out of 10.

not anything of major consequence. i did worked in the craft service dept.
i took no offense to your comment BTW, just breaking your balls.

i do take offense to you think WWZ looks good. ouch. i guess im over zombie movies. and i think the shots of the "hordes" look awful. they look like ants, and too me, that is too much communication and planning for thoughtless creatures. it looks like chaos, but its too organized.

^this is obviously just breaking balls too!

I just saw what you are talking about on a commercial for World War Z. Not like it takes me a long time. I thought that the World War Z people wanted the viewer to get the impression that people really were ants, or insects. I usually get pi$$ed when I feel I am being manipulated that much. Umprhreak, I really respect your views on things. Usually I am recalcitrant to watch a lot of popular action movies because of their "mondo-entertainment" factor. Nothing is left to the imagination. But when they try to put such simplistic messages in your head . . .

Did you watch either movie at Yorktown? Used to run that theatre!

Z didn't blow my mind, thought the ending was pretty anti-climactic. Read they completely reshot the last 40 minutes of the film.

Wow, small world! Yes I did see both of them there. I agree with you on the ending of WWZ too. Can't stand the, "Our battle has just begun..." endings

I haven't seen it but every zombie movie ever ends on either, a all hope is lost, or this is just beginning note... kind of a calling card of that genre.

I hope they do a sequel to Zombie World. I hate zombie movies but that was fantastic. Plus Emma Stone is so fine.

World War Z was pretty good, its slow at times, but all in all not bad. The effects are sick.

The Internship

The Internship

Nice infomerical for Google.

Vaugh and Wilson are once again the dynamic duo of The Wedding Crashers slick talking their way through whatever as Computer Cowboys in a P.C. world.

Some laughs as the unchosen nerds and dinosaurs do combat with the uber geeks.

I really liked Monsters U. It was much better than I expected; it's own movie, and another sequel that was better than the original. My kids liked it, too!

I don't typically go to kids movies (even tho I have 3 kids) as they are usually so boring I fall asleep (it was not a good thing when my two oldest were younger and it was just them and I.) But this is one that looks like I could hang. It looks funny, interesting, and like it may actually have a story line.

It is all about a) being accepting; and, b) not quitting until you achieve your goal. Good, clear lessons. The hero's made a few mistakes, but always ended up doing the right thing. No ambiguity. No reward for scumbags, but the road was not easy. Just a well crafted ride with Sully and Mike Wazowski. It was an inclusive movie, showing how everyone had their own contributions to make. I liked it, made me feel like we got something for our buck, after the moral ambiguity that has been so pervasively riding the news airwaves lately.

On another note, all of the Emma Stone talks, Zombieland on TV last night and especially the amazing gif, must have led me to another film she is in, The Help. The Help is a story about the lives of African-American maids in Jackson, Mississippi. It is a well put together movie and really draws you in emotionally. Great performances by Emma Stone, Octavia Spencer, and Viola Davis (among others), but Viola Davis's character, Aibileen, really is spectacular IMO. Really a great movie and a must see.

Agreed. The Help is a really good movie. I was upset with the marketing when it first came out because it made the movie seem like a comedy, but the movie was anything but that, serious as the topic should be.

On another note Rosie makes a special appearance in Monster U. And that is well done, too!

Not the type of movie that I'd typically watch....
But.... The Station Agent... Great movie for those who are fans of Tyrion Lannister in A Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage does a fantansic job as an anti social dwarf. Also finding Patricia Clarkson hotter and hotter for some odd reason.

Just watched World War Z this afternoon. It was good, not great. Had an interesting twist on zombies and actually used the word zombie in the movie. Don't usually see that. I did feel like a lot of questions brought up in the film went unanswered. The zombies were also too fast. I'd still recommend watching it.

Holy crap... If you ever feel like a nap or feeling like being preached down to.... I've got the movie for you. Get down on the ground, lay flat and watch this crap production preach their nonsense for 90 minutes.

It's been about a year, but it's taken about a year to shake the crap out of my brain from this experience.

Just watched Almost Famous for the first time in probably a decade. Now that I'm a psuedo-hipster when it comes to music, the movie has so much more meaning. I'd give it a 8/10. Also, a ton of actors are in it who made it big later that decade.

I watched "Super 8" a few days back. It was entertaining and had a charming, throwback feel to it. At times, director J.J. Abrams was trying a little too hard to create the feel of an early 80s Spielberg film. But overall, a solid piece of entertainment.

Did a documentary marathon the past week. I am impressed with the high quality and well researched documentaries that are being produced these days. I ended up enjoying all of them more than I thought I would. Anyways, here is the list:

Why We Fight
We Steal Secrets
The House I Live In
Invisible War
Jiro Dreams of Sushi
The Central Park Five
Searching for Sugar Man
We Were Here
Nostalgia for the Light
Room 237
Inside Job

Other than documentaries, I watched a couple of fascinating movies First is a French-Canadian movie titled Incendies. Acting was superb, particularly Lubna Azabal's performance, despite some flaws in the script and the impact was powerful enough to keep you thinking for a few days. Second is a Japanese movie titled Like Someone in Love. Beautiful cinematography and impactful ending as well. Not a fan of Japanese movies but ended up watching because it was directed by Abbas Kiarostami. Well worth it.

Life of Pi... Eh

I agreed; it didn't quite live up to its billing IMO. Great visual work, but just an barely-above-average movie. Didn't really keep my attention the whole way through. Though I thought the end was interesting.

Haha I watched that about a month ago. Really enjoyed it. Penny Lane was hot AF.

Also Buster: You should definitely watch Garden State if you haven't yet. Music is not center-stage like Almost Famous, but it really has a big impact on the film.

I have watched quite a few movies the last couple days.

Ted- I finally got around to this movie. I really liked it and laughed quite a bit. Can't wait for the second movie.

Due Date- This has Downey Jr. and Galafanakis in it. It was alright. I laughed a few times but I would've expected it to be funnier with Galafanakis being in it.

Couples Retreat- Jason Bateman's wife in this movie is hot. That alone made it a good one.
