And thus the birth of the phrase "It Moved."

I have been listening to a lot of Tupac for the past month. Which is funny considering my favorite rapper will always be Biggie.

I didnt appreciate Tupac until after his death....I just remember that Courtroom scene when he kept yelling "Thug Life, Thug Life" and it always turned me off to him. But after his death, and after listening to his lyrics I was quite blown away with the fact that alot of what he was rapping about sounds untrue and outrageous, but as events have unfolded and information came to light, ALOT of what he wrote about was true..

"I got busters, hoes, and police after me." -lyric from All Eyez on Me

I'll keep my thoughts short(er) this go-around as I am short on time and haven't listened to that much new this past week (besides a huge resurgence of Glen Hansard).

Just one band/ group this time, and it's Angus and Julia Stone. The sibling duo kill it. There must famous song is probably Big Jet Plane, but I like Just a Boy more. It's a bit more upbeat and the piano (?) plays a more significant role. It sounds more earthy (aka less synthetic) to me which may be part of the reason, but both songs are awesome.

Like QotSA, The National has a new album out that's real good. They're not for everyone but this song is off their second album.

Another good one that a vid on the previous page reminded me of:

A very nice treatment of The Boxer. I do like some good steel guitar. Thanks.

A question for you guys: I have looked into concerts I can go to this rest of this year, and was wondering if any of you guys have seen the following groups live:

Tame Impala
Roger Waters
MGMT
Local Natives
Brit Floyd
Phosphorescent
The National
Sigur Ros
Lumineers

I was hoping to go to 2-4 of these concerts, and was wondering you guys's (that's a word) thoughts.

As for stuff I am listening too:

I haven't been getting into new stuff recently, but I've been listening to Edward Sharpe, Phosphorescent, Dawes and Wilco mostly. I have listened to most of these guys before, but I am talking about less popular songs by Sharpe, Wilco and Dawes really.

Songs:

Wilco- Born Alone
Dawes-If I Wanted Someone
Dawes- Just Beneath the Surface
Dawes- A Little Bit of Everything
(I already loved When My Time Comes, so I'll exlcude it)
The National- Lucky You
Edward Sharpe- Man on Fire
Edward Sharpe- That's Whats Up
Edward Sharpe- I Don't Want to Play
Edward Sharpe- Up from Below
Lord Huron- Time to Run
Phosphorescent- Song for Zula

Also interesting is NPRmusic's station on Youtube. They have a series of video's called "Tiny Desk Concerts" were bands play 3-4 songs (normally not their popular ones though).

Here is the Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero video.
The set list is their most popular songs (Janglin, Home, 40 Day Dream)

And here is a Dawes song: A Little Bit of Everything

I've seen the bolded, including The National four times. I'm a big fan haha

If you happen to smoke the ol' jazz cigarettes, Tame Impala will be an out-of-this-world experience. I put them up there with Arcade Fire as a concert experience. Arcade Fire, Portugal. The Man, and Tame Impala just blow your mind. They are a must-see, plus they're from Perth, Australia so it's not like they'll be around that often; if you get the opportunity, GO!

MGMT is alright. I would compare them to Alt-J in that they don't get out of their element when they're live.

Local Natives are very good. They opened up for The National eight days ago and were solid. I'm a much bigger fan of their first album though, so I wish they would have played more of that.

The National, it depends on the concert. I've seen them in 2010, 2011, 2012, and eight days ago. It depends on how close you get. When we saw them in 2010/2011, we were far away and honestly you wouldn't be missing anything. But the last two times I was close (~10th row, and 2nd row), and it was very, very good. They end the concert with an acoustic performance of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks and get the crowd involved and honestly it could make a grown man cry.

1) I've been in love with Song For Zula! I've just been playing that, The National, and Lord Huron for seriously the last two weeeks haha

edit: jesus christ now I saw that you put down Time to Run too. Marry me?

2) Tiny Desk is great. Tiny Desk and KEXP's YouTube channel are the best live sources of music. If you want to see a band really stretch the creativity, the Take Away Shows are where it's at. My favorites on the Take Away Shows series are Yeasayer, Bon Iver, and Beirut. They're all pretty good, but nowhere near as clean as Tiny Desk or KEXP. Honestly the KEXP DJs have the best job in the world haha

Yeasayer (the refrain is rockin'!):

3) I'll check out the Dawes and Edward Sharpe stuff, thanks! I saw Edward Sharpe in May 2012, great show. Have you check out his solo work, Alexander? Good stuff there too.

Thanks for all of the insight. Though "jazz cigarettes" aren't my speed, Tame Impala sounds like a good time. I am straying away from The National- I like most of their older stuff and they probably will be playing more of their recent stuff (which isn't bad, just not great). I'm not a huge Local Natives fan, but may consider it. I am almost surely going to Sigur Ros though, and probably the Lumineers though they really don't have much material

Well I only found that one through your post a few weeks back ;)

I saw Edward Sharpe early in June as well. Awesome show. I have liked their stuff a lot more after that. Memories I guess. Plus it is awesome dancing music. I have heard some limited Alexander Ebert. I like Truth the most.

If you want to check out Dawes I would definite recommend When My Time Comes first. It is kind of an acquired taste, but When My Time Comes reaches a bit broader and is a bit like Arcade Fire (a bit softer).

And I'll definitely have to check out KEXP. I really enjoyed Beirut's Tiny Desk Concert and most of their stuff, though I got away from that a bit recently.

And I just realize I left a couple off my list earlier. To add to it:

Dawes- Million Dollar Bill
Wilco- Handshake Drugs
Middle Brother- Blue Eyes
Middle Brother- Portland
Phosphorescent- Ride On / Right On

I was actually pleasantly surprised by The National's set list, they reached back into Alligator a ton, but I guess that's because they were prepping for Bonnaroo the next day.

The new Boards of Canada album is fantastic. It'll be hard for another album this year to top it I think. It's pretty dark and I am totally feeling that.

This thread needs a bump.

Anyway this is my favorite find of the past couple weeks.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/jL4axnrb_r0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I'm still listening to Dawes, so I won't rehash that, but I have grown to like Damien Rice's "The Blower's Daughter" since watching the movie Closer.

It makes for a really interesting opening scene.

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/wtI_i9E9l8U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Also thanks for the concert recommendations guys. Appreaciate the input. One last group I just found out I could see- Lord Huron. Any input there? Thanks guys!
