Assuming he's gone for good, this is as bad of an event that can happen to the program. There's no disputing this. Absolutely nothing good can come out of this and it will, without a doubt, set the program back.

How in the hell does DUI= two strikes and you're out and weed in your room = immediate expulsion?

But from the word coming out, he would have lost his scholarship for a year no matter where he was. Even the SEC. It is a major academic violation where the university (any university) has only one recourse.

That seems more reasonable, but I don't think it's possible to receive partial credit for a course anyway.

I wasn't thinking of a partial grade or even an "Incomplete" or but rather getting an "F" for that "one" grade in the course which would obviously pull down the overall course grade and the resulting GPA.

That's what it seems to mean, but that can't be right. Cheating in one class wipes out an entire semester worth of course work? Not even ND is that draconian.

What's weird is that I knew 3 people who got caught for cheating at ND (specifically plagiarism too boot) and none of them got kicked out of ND. Makes me wonder just how egregious it was and if this goes waaaaaaay deeper than just a plagiarized paper/final.
