Any word on which position we're recruiting him to play? If we keep carrying 5-6 TEs on the roster and running lots of 12 personnel, we won't have much use for Z WRs.

Won't be on campus this weekend per ISD
But Christian believes there is high mutual interest and he will make it campus.

I believe we like him in the slot

Bumped to 94 Rating on 247

Jay Hayes went from #1 to #3 in NY but not because his ratings dropped, Holley and Samuel just hopped him

My bad I should have been specific. TJ said he doesn't have an offer/commitable one.

Also per ISD we have not offered. He was one of the backs imo who we told not to visit

Differing reports, Tom Loy is saying that he received the offer last week when Diaco visited. Coach specifically mentioned that he had a great conversation with Diaco about Samuel.

Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Rutgers are in alphabetical order his top 5. He will focus on a small number of schools moving forward to keep the distractions as minimal as possible.

Piecing together all the info out there from the different sites, is it possible he has an offer which only becomes committable if he gets to campus and the coaches see him in person?

So to sum it up:

We like him at Z WR? (Or WR at any rate- I think the X,Y,Z definitions aren't great and really aren't used by the coaches that much; we play the 2-3 best WR/TE not 1 X, 1Y, 1Z).

Also he does not have a committable offer until he visits? (I think this is a rule for all recruits not just him)

In that ISD article he definitely prefers offense. Would probably be utilized in a Theo Riddick / Amir Carlisle type role for us.

New York produces some decent players but it seems like none of them ever pan out.

Hayes committed without being on campus

so did jalen brown and a host of other players

Didn't know Jay Hayes or Jalen Brown had never visited. Though I thought the "rule" was more recent so it wouldn't have applied to him.

Sounds like it may not be a "rule" but a strong preference (they are more willing to bend for top prospects I'm sure).

If a recruit is relatively high on the board, and accepting his verbal won't affect other recruits (by, say, filling up at certain position), I can't see any reason why not to accept it pre-visit.

I thought it was just to show they were legitimately interested and not "holding a spot" to decide later. I thought I saw something with in re: Jamel James. I could easily be wrong/ mistaken though.

Decision scheduled for October 1st, Top 5 of ND, OSU, Bama, Rutgers, & Miami. Oh and wanna guess who Urban compared him to? Percy Harvin. Shocker.

Samuel actually said he wants to be better than Harvin was at Florida.

Per 247, OSU is way out in front and he is actually recruiting other kids to come with him like Blacknall.

I tried embedding this video last week but it wasn't working. Curtis Samuel Highlights: Inside the Mind of a Freak Athlete | Bleacher Report

What I found interesting was the comments from his coaches.

On OSU - His HC talks to Urban Meyer weekly and says they will use him in the same fashion as Percy Harvin. What's interesting about this is they just received a commitment from Terry McLaurin who also reported the coaches see him as a Percy Harvin type.

His assistant coach seems like a knucklehead, but talks about the recruiting advice he gives to Curtis which includes questions like: How many QBs are being recruited, who are those QBs, are they recruiting anyone else at your position?

My takeaway from watching this last week was, if Curtis decides he wants to play defense, he will go to ND. If he wants to play offense, he will likely pick OSU or one of his other 3 - Bama, Rutgers and Miami.
