Every once in awhile I get the opportunity to have a short chat with a still very well connected, but retired NFL coach. He feels many teams see Manti as a BIG gamble for the first round and everyone is talking about Tyler. He does think some team will take the "gamble".

Draft buzz: Is Manti Te'o a first-round pick? - NFL.com

"...But Chris Mortensen of ESPN reported Wednesday that, "At least half the teams in this league have solid first-round grades on Te'o."

From everything I've read, Manti interviewed extremely well with the teams he met with and coaches and GM's are comfortable with the person he is. I expect him to be a Viking, either with the 23rd or 25th overall pick.

Just curious, but did your friend say gamble based on maturity and off the field stuff, or based on being a three down linebacker?

I have some doubts about the latter, but I can't believe teams would have qualms about his maturity if they got to interview him.

I don't think he'd consider me a friend, just an acquaintance. He didn't elaborate much yesterday, but he did say in our last conversation right after he got home from the combine that "a good interview just tells me he's good at interviews."

He knows I'm a ND fan, so while he doesn't hide that he's not too high on Manti, I think he holds back a little. He did say he thinks someone will probably take him in the first round though.

How's about that Tyler Eifert kid..... Pretty strong paws if you ask me. Line him up outside or in the slot and he'll get you a snag or two. ;)

After his back injury I thought his career was finished as a freshman. Congratulations to Tyler, his family, his doctors, and his physical terrorists.

very much so, think of guys like Nicholls, Roberson and Carrico who unfortunately never got to reach their full potential because of injury. It could have easily be them getting highly drafted like Tyler in a few years.
