what???? how the hell could 1. a school say this or 2. prevent you??

Really no different from Don Bosco in NJ. It's not that they can PREVENT you so to speak, but a coach can say they won't let you play if you are taking visits. I think it's foolish as every high school student should be taking visits to colleges they are applying to. Not just for sports but for academics too. I believe most high schools actually have built in college visit days that you take as needed. I would assume that rule could supersede the coaches opinion if taken to the administration though. Could you imagine the bad press coming on a coach from public schools who wouldn't allow star players to take visits to make an educated decision for their future?

In this case, J.T. Curtis the head coach, is one of 5 siblings who help run his father's( J.T. Curtis, Sr.) school. They have been making their own rules when it comes to football in this area for a while now.

Notre Dame should consider having one of the Shamrock Series games in New Orleans. Too much talent in a heavily Catholic area not to bring the parade of Irish faithful through.

Or they could just make the Sugar Bowl. But a boost to recruiting in Louisiana would be priceless for the program.

This would be so much fun...potential matchup Texas A&M or Texas? Maybe even an Auburn or Tennessee.

I agree, although we had that one in Chicago and that seemed to scare all of the IL talent away, lol.

Eh I'd imagine they'd want an easier opponent. Bring one of the ACC schools into the area.

I really hope we can pull some LA talent this year. Almost doesn't even matter the rank, just need to start something.

I don't think it would be that bad. Got to remember we'd be playing this hypothetical game at least 3 or 4 years down the line. Could line up a 2 game series with one of those 4 teams similar to what we have now with Oklahoma just play our home game in New Orleans. We are already dropping UM from our schedule so our schedule won't be looking as brutal as it has the last few years.

It's not often a kid has ND among his list and doesn't mention education as something he's looking for in a school. Perhaps he's said it in other interviews, but not this one. I think that can mean one of two things. Either academics really do not mean much to him when considering a school and ND's requirements will scare him off. Or academics are just something he hasn't given much thought to and the staff will be able to show him what a degree from ND can do for him. I'm hoping for the latter. Hopefully he can make it up to SB this summer and then make a return trip for an OV later in the fall.

Edit: Or third, academics are important to him, which is why he's interested in ND and he just doesn't feel the need to explain this to every single person who's interviewing him. lol Thanks, Beau.

Or third, our staff is doing such a great job selling ND, that you can have it as one of your top choices even if academics do not factor in. This is where we need to get.

He's mentioned academics in several interviews. Here's one:

JS: So when you look at schools, what are the things that are really important to you?

MD: I really want to get on the field and play early as a freshman. Having a good relationship with the coaches is really important and of course a good education. Education is key.

I don't have much of a read on where it ranks on his list of priorities. Curtis is a good high school, though. Not top-tier, academically, but solid. They place graduates at Tulane every year, including many of their mid-tier recruits.

I thought you were going to say, "Or he is so invested in the idea of finding a good academic institution, that he doesn't feel it's necessary to mention it."

Agreed. ND should always sell academics and hold athletes to high academic standards. But, also should get to the point where there is enough to sell about ND that can attract kids who are more interested in other aspects of the program as well. (Of course will still have to hold them to high academic standards.)

Thanks. This is the first interview I had read so I wasn't sure. Just something I noticed when he listed his criteria. It's usually something that comes up...even with kids who don't mean it will say it.

I thought you were going to say, "Or he is so invested in the idea of finding a good academic institution, that he doesn't feel it's necessary to mention it."

Also a possibility. I clearly didn't put much thought into that post. Was just a quick thought after reading the article. *Edited my op.

LSU, UCLA, Notre Dame, Clemson and Florida State are those schools recruiting him the hardest/the schools he is focusing on/schools he is visiting this summer.

Hopefully we can get him up to South Bend early this summer. He and Kenny Young visited UCLA last weekend, and it sounds like that trip really blew Young's recruitment wide open. Dupre had positive things to say, too, but I don't think the visit stopped LSU's momentum.

Dupre's recruitment's a bit harder than usual to get a handle on. The LSU fans think he's almost as much of a lock as Noil (maybe even more with A&M making a hard push for Speedy over the past month). Dupre's driven to LSU several times recently and he's probably being recruited harder than any other LSU target right now. But the LSU versions of TP swear up-and-down that he's wide open and a serious threat to skip town.

Where does this guy drop his knowledge? Rivals, 247, or Twitter? Somewhere else?

There are several of them on Tigerdroppings and SECRant. 504 SOLJA is probably the closest to TP in terms of breadth of knowledge (he's mainly on Tigerdroppings): he's a former high school coach at OP Walker (IIRC) and stays in close contact with current Catholic League coaches and the families of recruits. There are a bunch of them with very specific contacts, though.

He took top honors at a camp in Dallas playing most of his reps against Ed Paris (4 star LSU commit) and 5 star Tony Brown. People I know say they think Mal was very impressed with UCLA and think he will official out there in the fall. They made an impression.

Does offering his LB teammate help out with him at all?

I haven't read anything about them being a package deal. I also haven't read anything stating if they are very close or not (ex. Andrews and Allen). With that said having a presence at a specific school by offering more players and teammates I don't think can hurt.
