I'd have to think Miami... but haven't really read anything on him in a long while.

Maybe KC committing to the canes put some pressure on him to jump on board. Would really hate to see him end up at Miami.

per a rivals mod, ND just liked prospects better and didn't have the frame ND is looking for in a tackle.

GB, not arguing, nor disagreeing with what u said, however, I don't fully understand the staff's logic sometimes.....Nelson's measurables are 6'5" 285#.....Reilly's are 6'6" 280#.......not much difference there IMO????

Listed height and weight isn't the end all in a prospect's frame makeup. For example, I care way more about arm length in an OL that an extra inch or so.

Not saying arm length is necessarily what the staff is hung up on here, but it is just one characteristic that could be attributable to their 'logic'.

if I remember correctly at an Under Armour Combine he was actually measured in closer to 6'4"...again not saying height is super important b/c our current left tackle is measuring in at 6'4" as well

This is true and I was just about to post this. 6'6" 280 is not even remotely accurate for Reilly Gibbons. He measured in at 6'4" 275 and while there is little doubt he can get up to around 300 pounds he simply doesn't have a large frame (and I heard rumors of small arms too? he has a listed wingspan of 6'10" which would be normal but if you assume that is inflated by 2" like his height then he has short reach) for a prototypical NFL caliber OT.

Now, he could totally end up being an all-american in college and a dominant player a la Zach Martin (and he's RIDICULOUSLY athletic which is why I always thought he's worth an offer if you have room) but the staff has shown they're really uncompromising in most cases when it comes to size and what they're looking. Exceptions are only made for hyper productive players.

Again, I really wanted (and still want) the staff to offer him because of his athleticism and his attitude/character but you can understand how with limited numbers they might pass on someone who hasn't played a ton of OL.

One thing to remember is Zack Martin was not recruited by Kelly. He may or may not have been offered if Kelly were here at the time due to height. He probably would have been offered as a guard but not as a tackle.

Quentin Nelson is rated higher than Gibbons and the staff got to spend some quality time with him. This is why he was offered this weekend. I would say we look good with Nelson, Mustipher and Braden Smith. Wonder if this puts more pressure on Bars to commit or not?

The pros really put a lot into the wingspan and foot speed. Even if you get beat off the line your foot speed and wingspan help considerably when it comes keeping the DE off your QB.

Good post. Since Bars is coming back to ND, I'd say there is more pressure on him. Honestly, I'd take any 2 of them and be tickled sh!tless with our 2 year OL haul.

Just a friendly reminder that Reilly's parents have posted here in the past, and he grew up an ND fan. There's absolutely no reason to impugn his intelligence.

Fuck that. Of course he did. God damn it. I gave zero shits about passing on a high upside prospect who we'd barely (if ever) see on the field. Now I really, really wish we'd use one of our open spots on him even with our loaded OL classes.

I'd be more concerned if he was a DL, but not an OL. We've done really well at that position past couple of years with no signs of slowing down this year.

Yup… i'm really at a point where nothing is worth getting mad about anymore. I mean, the amount of talented kids we passed on this year is immense. Meanwhile, we will end the cycle with a bunch of spots open… as always. lol
