Very odd. Would love to know what Hiestand is seeing on tape that makes him shy away from Gibbons.

Will not pursue? As in, no matter what? I have a hard time believing this guy, with legitimate ND interest will not get a look if we strike out on some top OL.

Sad to see. But you never know the future.

I don't know man it seemed that way. TV said the family was aware of his status. It was pretty straight forward in the article.

Yep, I read it the same way. Somebody even asked Sapp a follow-up question to clarify and he just said, "Notre Dame isn't recruiting him." It sounds like Reilly just isn't in the picture.

He measured in at 6'4'' at the UA combine in January. He just doesn't have the size they want at OT.

But that alone can't be the reason. Zack Martin is only 6'4''.

You would think they would at least stay in touch with Reilly as a backup. It's definitely weird.

This staff didn't recruit Martin even though he has turned into a good player. Guys like McGlinchey and Elmer are the type of players they would prefer at OT.

Well it's not that simple. That was a different recruiting year, with different amount of spots available, and we had a different amount of OL ahead of Martin, we didn't have as much recruiting momentum as now, etc.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. Reilly truly is 6'5 1/2 his pediatrician can confirm this information. He is also 282 lbs. ND has made it clear that this is a process and it won't be over until signing day next year. Our ND recruiter has not stopped recruiting Reilly just like we have not stopped looking at schools. We are traveling to Duke this weekend to meet with the coaches and watch the Duke Miami basketball game. My son is very blessed. He works very hard in the classroom weight room basketball court and on the field. Last year this time he was a good TE and one year later he is one of the best OT in the country with 35 D1 offers. What will next year be like? Thanks for all of your kind words about Reilly he truly is one in a million.........

Can a mod confirm the IP address please?

Assuming you are who you say you are, welcome to IE! Hope your son does well for himself wherever he ends up!

Sweet. I wonder why IE attracts so many parents?

We're the only ND site that gives each of our recruiting targets his own thread. Thus, when a parent does a Google search for his or her son's name, we're almost always one of the top results.

So it's because we're the creepiest?

Nice.

Thank you for the info and clearing that up. I thought it was quite odd when I read that earlier. I know a lot of us that follow recruiting are frustrated and confused an offer hasn't been extended so I can't imagine what it's like for your son. It's great to watch the progress he's made and crazy to see his recruiting blow up like it has. I'm sure he will continue working hard and I hope that work is rewarded with an offer from ND. Either way he has some really good options, congrats to you and your son!

This is exactly why IE rocks! Special thanks to the mods for keeping this place cleaned up and enjoyable. And I hope everyone uses this as a reminder that parents and recruits visit this site. Always keep that in mind when posting.

Oh, I'm glad to hear that. I think we all hope to see Reilly at ND.

guess this kind of debunks tv credibility a bit.

Yes and no ... we probably just misinterpreted. They didn't say that Reilly could never end up at ND; the main point was just that he isn't likely to get an offer anytime soon. I interpreted Sapp's follow-up comment "ND isn't recruiting him" to mean that they aren't keeping in contact at all, but that's probably just not what he meant. I've always said that Sapp is great at getting the info but not always great at writing clearly so we can understand what he's saying.

On purpose a lot of times I think. If he doesn't know the definitive answer it behooves him to be as vague as possible so it can't backfire on him. There is an art to being an insider. Haha

i jus think that we as fanatic followers of recruiting need to be aware that we are going to have to be very patient this year with this recruiting class. obviously with the limited numbers the staff is being very picky and we may not see the dividends as quickly as we did last year, maybe not even unitl late in the 2013 season.

i apologize if it seems like i'm re-stating the obvious, but reilly's recruitment situation really reminded me of this.

going to have to just hope for the best again

FYI, Lax posted something in the TV thread on BGI about Mr. Gibbons' comments on IE, and Sapp basically said the bolded. Sapp isn't surprised ND is keeping in contact, as anything could happen with a year to go till NSD, but he thinks, FWIW, that Reilly is far enough down the board that we'll fill up before enough guys drop off the board to justify offering Reilly. We'll just see how it goes, I guess.

Really disappointing that he won't be Irish. I don't get it. Hope this isn't another situation that we look back on during NSD and kick ourselves for.

Best of luck, Reilly!
