I mean, I love Mahone too and I'm not saying he won't be a very good player, but I just don't understand what we could be basing him being the #1 guy going into next season when we haven't seen him take one snap yet. Not saying its impossible, but what are we basing it on?

I am basing it on what people have told me how he has done this year on scout team vs 1s defense. Hearing a lot of buzz about him. And like I said, I think Cam will move to defense so one less guy with experience to beat out.

It's easy to assume Mahone could be number one simply because he fits the profile of the "feature" back. He's got power and speed, and will have a chance to fill the void left by Wood and Riddick. Not saying it's right, it's just easy to think that way. It's no different than assuming Carlisle can step in and do the job. Yes, he got carries at USC as a Freshman, but we don't know if he's fully healthy or if he will pan out. And we've heard he's versatile enough to operate in the slot, but will he prove himself as a pass catcher?

Weird ... Haven't heard his name more than 3xs all year and now after the awards show, its like he released a highlight video or something. I love mahone, think he'll be a solid back but Carlisle and ga3 with Cam in relief are all well see next year.... I still maintain Bryant red shirts if he's not on special teams

McDaniel will not shift back to defense. Despite constant IE hysteria about our "depth" at defensive backfield, we will be FOUR DEEP at every position!! If someone said that he might be asked to do a Robbie Toma imitation behind Davonte Neal, then I might think I've returned to the Universe that I know well.

3.97 shuttle would be 4th best at the combine... and he did it in Highschool. I also remember reading that it wasn't mis-timed either. So. much. potential.

I really hope Cam gets a chance to step up this year. He looked really good in mop-up duty last year and honestly I hope he gets at least 1/4 of the RB snaps.

Just my opinion but I believe as long as you are not in Kelly's "dog house", everyone is given a fair shake.

The unfortunate part for McDaniel is the fact so much talent is in the RB position. Although young, there is still an exponential amount of talent waiting to flourish this up coming season. Hopefully he can emerge out of the pact and get a significant amount of carries.

No, I don't see it. He was at best 4th string last year, behind GAIII, and I think we were all somewhat dissapointed with what GAIII did last year, well in comparrison to how he looked in the spring game. I think the depth on our offense is going to play a role in him NOT seeing the field anymore than he did last year. At running back he's gonna struggle to maybe be 4th, with GAIII, Amir and Mahone he's gonna struggle to get touches. I gotta assume Bryant or Folston are gonna see the field this year which is gonna limit his role at the RB position. I mean do you give a guy like Cam a few carries, or do you give the ball to Bryant/Folston early in their careers to get them accustom to playing College FBALL, I'm gonna say the potential for Bryant and Folston are much higher than Cam. I think with Neal and Ferg leaving, it shows there aren't a whole lot of room at the WR spot, let alone someone like Cam to go to the slot. I love Cam and what he brings to the team, but IMHO I don't see much coming from him this year. Coaches aren't really ranting and raving about him like they are GAIII and Amir, and Amir has been hurt.

But anything is likely..

I have seen him a couple times during the off season. His arms and upper legs are massive but idk how much he weighs. I would guess around 200, he isn't very tall. I have a couple inches on him

I think the only reason GAIII got on the field at all last season was because of his home run capability. He didn't do a whole lot when in the game. His 2 long TD's were against Navy and Miami and the only other good play I remember was the TD against either BYU or Stanford, I can't remember which one but it did give us the lead if I recall correctly. Cam didn't provide anything new to what Theo or Cierre could do so he was used as our cleanup guy. With both Theo and Cierre gone, there is no reason at all to believe he won't see more than garbage time. It appears he is beating out Mahone at the moment for the #2 spot and there are no guarantees that Bryant will be ready to be the #2 right away and I think Folston will be mostly slot.

I think there are certain characteristics that Cam has that will put him on the field. He will start the season as #2 and will earn more time as the season progresses.
