We really do, lately. It wasn't that long ago that we got Fleming and Filer in the same year. We need to get back to that.

cuz they were standouts....but i understand what you're saying

Not cool. I was very pleased with Fleming's productivity.

True, Fleming became a good player. Anyway, all I meant is that they were two top recruits in the Chicago area who played the same position and picked ND in the same year. Hard to imagine that, the way things have been going for us with a lot of Chicago-area recruits. Not to seem ungrateful for guys like Lombard, McGovern, etc ... it certainly hasn't been a complete dry spell.

Yep I knew what you meant. I was referring to Panda's comment.

I'm pretty grateful for Chris Watt, too.

"I am still looking to go to a couple schools around the Midwest like Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin and possibly Iowa," Jones said. "The only one that is set is Michigan State. I am going to their spring game, but I am also probably going to go to some practices there as well. I also want to get out to Vanderbilt and Florida, too."

IMO I think the staff is just higher on some prospects right now or else chuck Martin just keeps going to Chicago to eat portilos and watch Bulls games. Instead of recruiting Chicago IMO it's embarrassing.

Visiting ND at some point next week. Will also visit Michigan, MSU and possibly Wisco next week. He's not sure which schools on which days yet.

Wiltfong says all of the above are chasing Ohio State.

I was wondering because he was only visiting one day compared to 2 for the others.

Michigan is Thursday-Friday and Michigan State is Friday-Saturday. Those aren't exactly two day visits though they may be longer than the ND one depending on if he leaves South Bend Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

If there is one recruit that could lessen the sting of losing KC, it would be Mr. Jones. Hoping he has a good time today.

4-star Chicago De La Salle OL Jamarco Jones @jjones_73 recaps #ND #UW #UM #MSU visits, plus narrowing his list soon: Scout.com: Jones Narrowing Focus

ND good, scUM good spent the night hanging with players, MSU was great met the new OC liked him a lot, First time to UW likes where the coaches are going liked their practice style. When asked about O$U said he thinks they have a lot to offer, going to narrow things down and get a top 8, but some are sticking out more than others.

This info was sent to me by a guy I met at a tailgate a couple of years ago, great guy who is totally legit (username: hungryhippo...which is funny cause he's not an ounce overweight lol). But seeing as how he only has like 12 posts here (reads a lot but just doesn't post here), he thought I should be the one to say it since he felt he wouldn't have any credibility as a person who rarely posts.

Problem is, he gave this to me last week and I forgot to post it!!! And now that we have Nelson and Bars is about to commit, it's probably not even pertinent anymore. Here it is though:

I ran a grade school camp today at De La Salle here in Chicago, which is where JaMarco Jones and Shelby Spence go. Spence came and threw to our kids, and happens to be one of the nicest yes sir no sir kids I've ever met. The pertinent bit is that he's been best friends with Jones since grade school and they were looking at that crystal ball thing or some recruiting prediciton online that said he was going to OSU. Apparently Jones' reaction was like 'news to me'. Said Jones hasn't said anything to him one way or another and doesn't think he's made up his mind at all.

Hungryhippo also went on to say that these guys all know about the pitfalls of twitter (they talked about Yuri Wright) and message boards and all that. Unfortunately some kids don't get it, but these high school kids are completely aware of it.

Anyway, sorry about the late info, but anytime I get a chance to LOL at ant80 for his stupid O-line comments about Warriner and Heistand, I'm all for it!

Thanks for the info. That's interesting.

I still think O$U is the team to beat, even if Jones doesn't know it.

But that does raise a (potentially) interesting scenario. Say we have Byrne, Mustipher, Nelson, and Bars all in the fold and Jones wants to commit in January before B. Smith makes a decision. Is Jones a 'don't turn away' or do we tell him 'only if B. Smith doesn't pick ND'? My gut is that we tell him to wait on B. Smith. But that is only based on the recent focus toward Nelson, Bars, and Smith by the ND recruiting sites. If we're willing to take Nelson (who by all accounts is near the top of ND's board) and Bars at OT without giving Jones time to decide, that makes me believe he's high on the board but not at the top. And it sounds like Smith is higher. I guess if we somehow fall out of the race with Smith, Jones would be a "must take".

Does anybody have a feel for this? Is my gut right? What is a horseshoe? What does a horseshoe do? Are there any horse socks? Is anybody listening to me?

I think they would take Smith over Jones but that's just my opinion. Can't say for sure though. I'd be happy with either one though and I think both would be beasts.

I want both. Six linemen. I know. One or more has great defensive skills or we push the paradigm forward on Oline skills. I don't care! I would not turn down Smith and Jones, or, Smith or Jones.

I could see it playing out that way if Smith is significantly higher on our OL board than Jones. But Jones is a borderline 5:s: OT. Assuming there isn't an overwhelming preference for Smith (and I can't imagine why there would be), it'd be hard to tell such a recruit to hold off until 2014 because we have to see what Smith does first. Too much risk of losing both that way.

Plus, I'd chortle for weeks knowing we took both Nelson and Jones from OSU. Epic levels of Buckeye Butthurt.
