I know it won't happen, but with howland out at ucla who would be in favor of bringing him in instead of brey?

Absolutely not. His teams are undisciplined on and off the court and he has trouble winning with superior talent.

I wonder what you guys would think of bringing in Tubby Smith instead of Brey??

Tubby Smith? No.

Greg Marshall? I would say yes if possible (not just saying that because of tonight, brought it up first after the Third Round).

If Stevens went to ND, which will never happen, that would be a step down or at best a lateral move IMO.

If Shaka said no to UCLA he's definitely wouldn't go to ND

Gregg Marshall is the guy from Witchita State (and formerly Winthrop). He's always been a great coach, this year is the first time most ppl have taken notice.

I just don't see how ND is a better job than Butler moving forward, ecspecially with Butler moving to the new big east.

The Big East is going to be garbage now with majority of the good teams leaving. He could tear it up with recruiting, stay in Indiana, and coach in the ACC. Notre Dame would just have to offer him an offer he can't turn down. Right now, Brad Stevens is making more money than Brey.

He's going to the new big east, the Catholic 7 one, with Georgetown, Marquette etc. not as good as the ACC but still will be a high quality conference.

Butler's basketball budget is going to pass NDs in a couple years, so until ND becomes more serious about basketball I don't see them paying a bunch of money to anyone.

I know he is going to the new Big East, which will probably be worse than the conference than they are in now.

And I never understood that. Why is the basketball budget so low? It seems like football is the only sport that is given attention to.

I completely disagree. Butler is no where near having the wherewithal and ability that Notre Dame has. Butler is good because he is there; that's about it.

He could end up being the Coach K of Butler and put them on the map forever, but that isn't the case right now. They're doing what a few programs have done before they faded back to their level, e.g. Loyola Marymount or UNLV.

I don't see how that's possible, the new big east is going to include the Catholic 7 plus some of the top teams from the A10 and will probably eventually add Creighton too.

Couldn't tell ya, our bball budget ranked 13th in the Big East. While Butlers though a little bit smaller has increased a over a 200% rate from when they play Duke to now.

EDIT: that last part about Butlers budget probably wasn't worded correctly, it was 1.7 million and is now 3.9 million

What wherewithal and ability? Serious question not tryin to be a dick.

We ranked near the bottom in basketball budget in the Big East and will be near the bottom in the ACC.

This is the main reason I don't think Brey should be fired though I do acknowledge there are better coaches out there.

Just because you don't flex muscles doesn't mean you don't have them. Notre Dame's budget could improve and dwarf Butler's (of it doesn't now), if they really wanted to. I can't answer why they haven't really invested in the program.

Regardless, even with the budget issue, Notre Dame with him at the helm would attract better kids than he would at Butler. Notre Dame is just a muuuuuch bigger draw for kids and that's 60% of the battle.

Has anybody posted a link to Div 1 Basketball Budgets or is all this talk about ND's BB Budget conjecture?

Heard the other day that Notre Dame is one of only seventeen schools to have made the NCAA tournament the last four seasons.

I am in favor of keeping Brey, but if FGCU stays consistent I wouldn't mind grabbing their coach a few years down the line.

TFWIW, but heard a rumor that the plan is that ND is hosting UNC and going to Duke next year. It'll probably be wrong now that I posted it but whatever, i'm bored and it's the offseason.

Well that will be interesting I wonder how were gonna stack up against UNC and Duke. I remember couple years ago when we played UNC in Maui and we got destroyed even tho the teams are totally different now but I'm just giving an example.

Pretty sure UNC won the NC that year, to be fair.

UNC will be a top 5 team next year if not top 3 with everyone returning and their incoming recruits and a transfer. Not to be a negative nancy but were not looking like a team that will compete our first year in the ACC.
