@BFeldmanCBS: Re: Gunner Kiel transferring from ND. One coach at a big AQ program told me he declined Kiel's interest last month”

I suppose Les was onto something last year. Sounding like poor work ethic or poor attitude if he is being declined.

And you'd be wrong. Everyone has been aware, but never wanted to say, that Notre Dame was past the point of comfortable depth, and very much into the "transfer lookout" zone.

Golson, Rees, Hendrix. Three capable quarterbacks.

That's right i forgot that God buster is always right. Golson goes down with a bad injury you have Rees as the back up and Hendrix that is not very good. And the. A true freshman that has barely opens the play book equals bad depth.

LOL but TP isn't legit?!? Give me a break

I will always like Gunner but the way he handled the recruiting process this shouldn't surprise anyone. Good luck to him though.

It's crazy how good last year's class was supposed to be, and now we miss out on 3-5-star guys that were all ND at one point. Keil, Shepard, and Greenberry. I wonder what the class ranking would be if you eliminate Keil and Sheppard.

IrishIllustrated.com - Kiel plans to transfer

Gunner Kiel will be making his exit from Notre Dame just over one year after arriving on campus.

After spending last season as a scout team quarterback the former five-star prospect from Columbus, Ind., plans to transfer, a source tells Irish Illustrated. Kiel enrolled at Notre Dame last winter after graduating from high school a semester early.

A former five-star prospect, Kiel made multiple verbal commitments during the recruiting process before landing in South Bend.

Indiana first landed Kiel, the nephew of former Irish quarterback Blair Kiel, before he switched to LSU. Kiel then balked at enrolling early at LSU in favor of heading to Notre Dame to play for head coach Brian Kelly.

Kiel spent last season as part of a position group that included starter Everett Golson, a sophomore, veteran backup Tommy Rees and Andrew Hendrix.

Freshman Malik Zaire also enrolled for the second semester and will take part in spring practice

He wasn't ever gonna see the field with Rees here anyway

But seriously, I hope he is successful wherever he goes. Good luck.

There is absolutely nothing you can do about it. An 18 year old kid transferring to play football elsewhere is far from a disaster. I guess he didn't see himself unseating Golson in the near future and hopefully saw it was no given that Zaire wouldn't bypass him on the depth chart rather quickly. Whatever the case, best of luck to Gunner if he indeed is leaving, I really wanted to see him develop here.

The only reason to transfer is because you know you are not going to be the starter. If the kid who can not beat out our starter wants to transfer to play at the QB position, that's fine with me.

Those type of kids won't be an asset on the bench if they are that impatient and seemingly so unconfident in their abilities that they can not foresee beating out a QB for the next 3 years, especially one that is certainly prone to injury.

Hate to knock the kid, but in terms of this being labeled a disaster: Give me a Tommy Rees supporting Everett and the team over a Gunner looking out for #1 anyday.

We have an electric Sophomore QB who has one loss as a starter coming back along with two veteran, capable backups, and a young dynamic understudy redshirting. We are more than fine.
