**Notre Dame Combine Invitees: Results & Analysis**

I have an honest question. Does Manti have issues with conditioning or diet perhaps? It seems like his weight fluctuates quite a bit. I'm not just referring to the drop for the combine, but in general I have noticed sometimes he looks very fit and other times much less so. I love Manti and I think he's a phenomenal athlete and person (just thought I'd say that before I get crucified).

Also I want to add that I understand that Manti's build is somewhat different than a lot of players. He doesn't look shredded, and may not even be able to, some people are just like that. I understand not everyone is going to look like a Vernon Davis or Patrick Willis (obvious Niner fan).

Sorry but I'll trust a guy who was a GM for 25+ years over a sports writer. Seems to be we will just agree to disagree.

I'm not saying that I trust him anymore than anyone else....but Polian is just one guy. It's not like he's speaking for everyone.

Hes not even in the league anymore. I'm sure he's missed on some guys.

Alright... got to break this up into three sections. First and foremost, if you read carefully, he IS speaking for everyone. He said specifically that he talked to oodles of people in the business in charge of decision making and there was a consensus on his value AND that NONE had significantly soured on him.

Hes not even in the league anymore.

So? He until very, very recently and is as plugged in as any analyst and has more experience in a GM role than probably all of the other analysts out there combined. He was in the league as recently as 2012 for crying out loud. What exactly is your point?

I'm sure he's missed on some guys.

Yeah, duh. There is not a single executive out there who hasn't missed on someone at some point. This is just a beyond pointless statement. But he was a VERY successful GM for a whopping 26 years and won the Executive of the Year award TWICE. That is as close to impeccable credentials as it gets for anyone on this freaking planet we call Earth.

I haven't read all of this because I'm short on time, but I'm confused. I'm 100% certain that I heard Polian (who has been pro-Manti) say that in his opinion, Manti is not a 3-down LB in the NFL, and you only draft 3-down LBs in the first round (implying that he wouldn't take Manti in the 1st). Again, I'm 100% I head Polian say this earlier in the week.

He did say that. He also said the Pro Day 40 time will be important. I left feeling that he still might take him later in the first.

We're already getting too far into the weight/40 time issue, but Manti's family is pretty big. He's always looked 'uncut' compared to other elite LBs at the BCS level, in my opinion. Maybe he's genetically strapped when it comes to cutting a lot of fat.

BTW...Todd McShay has finally moved Eifert ahead of Ertz. Eifert is #22 on his board!

Why would anyone care about clayton? The only time you'll catch me watching espn is if there's a game on.

I refuse to listen to these egocentric analysts banter over stupid stuff. I don't have the time or patience to listen/read what guys like clayton have to say.

Amen, the whole "disregard facts and argue with the intent to **** people off and gain viewers" strategy is getting pretty tired. There are only so many hours in a day, and it seems like if it's not a live game or SportsCenter, it is a collection of twatwaffles arguing and belittling each other, knowing that they don't actually care and they are just arguing for the sake of arguing for the almighty mothership's ratings.

If it's not a game, I don't watch. Or 30-for-30.

I personally, love ESPN. 24 hours of sports. All the different perspectives. I love it. I may not always agree, but ESPN is still the best for sports info. It's by no means the ONLY place, but still tops for me.

Yeah I really enjoyed just watching the different perspectives on the Miami Heat doing the Harlem Shake.

Random question. Has the University officially announced the 5th year seniors yet?

No they haven't but it appears that at minimum Martin, Watt, Carlo, Fox, and Stockton are all coming back. Stockton participated in Camp Kelly that started this morning. I am not sure on Tausch. He has been around and working out with Brindza so I would guess yes though I am not totally up to date on the numbers game.

surprised by that, but good for him none the less.

Man I know the Bears need a lot of help on the O line and MLB, but i would be psyched if they snagged Eifert at 20...i'm sure cutler would be too

Naw, I don't think so about the weight fluctuations.

Manti played most of his career listed at 255lbs. It wasn't until this season that he dropped down to 245-240 range (hence the improved coverage skills). I thought he looked a lot skinnier around the waist this year. Where as before, he kinda looked like a mean, bowling ball.

Not sure I answered your question, but that's my take.

This is not a response to you WW, but I am using your post as a starting point. (You are usually one of the more rational posters.)

I wasn't going to even look at this thread but the honor of a friend is at stake, and a few of you are buds.

Let me help you with this Manti thing.

As a preface, I had a drunk at the Michigan game walking up to me convinced I was Manti's dad. If he was not drunk, one of us was on drugs, or exibiting a serious mental defect.

Have you looked at Manti's parents? Have you looked at Manti's grandparents? Are you familiar with the Samoan, and Polynisian cultures and peoples?

Manti came into the program at 253. Look at those old pictures. Look at his face and how narrow it was. I have heard several sources that state Manti played his Junior year at or near 270. I would tend to believe it. His senior resurgance related to him dropping around fifteen pounds, which put him back in the mid 250's.

If in assessment, the company he is employing, saw his straight line speed as deficient, he would have trained to lose weight. Nobody said these guys were any good. He achieved his goal with the shuttle, three cone, and 10 yard split. They were all impressive.

As long as we don't need Manti to be superman, it is all good. Right?

Remember yesterday's Longo debate? Turns out Jake was right. 'Bama's S&C coach is clearly superior to Longo. Just not for the reasons he thought.

What a great weapon to add to that offense....

But they need Oline help. Big time.

One NFL Scout told Mark Eckel that Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert will "probably go somewhere in the middle of the first round, somewhere in the teens."

Just found this on Twitter: College football's top current NFL factories.

The metric is most active players in the NFL. ND, with 28, is tied for 8th (with OSU and Cal) nationally, and sits just behind UF and Nebraska (both at 29). The only 5 programs with a clear lead are USC, Miami, LSU, UGA and Texas.

What would be interesting is to divide the number put in the nfl in the last 5-10 years from each school by the average class size for the past 5-10 years to get a better figure of how well teams are actually doing at putting their players into the nfl.
