Our guard play is going to be crazy good next year. Do we have any bigs coming back besides Auguste?

I think it is very possible that it would be an Auguste and Sherman duo with Burgett providing the help off the bench. Either way, it will be very thin.

Knight has a year of eligibility remaining after this year. I'll have to look at the roster and how many are leaving/coming in to see if there is room. He isn't a star by any means, but there is a roster spot I wouldn't be opposed to bringing him back for depth purposes.

There will be 8 returning scholarship players not including Knight and Joey Brooks + 4 incoming freshmen. I have no idea what is going on with Brooks this year. I thought I read before the season that he wanted to sit out the year, graduate, and then transfer without having to sit out so he can play his 5th year closer to home, but I don't know if that is the plan. Either way, it seems one of Brooks or Knight could be brought back for a 5th year next year to fill the roster to 13 scholarship players.

Forgot about him. He has been a bonus this year.

Knight will almost certainly be back and Katenda may finally get to see some limited minutes in a way that Auguste has this year.

Yeah but they never even showed up for that FSU game. Worst performance I have seen. That was a great team we had that year

Florida State was just way too athletic and long, they were in every shot. Live by the three and die by the three. It's just the way it is/was.

G- Atkins (SR)
G- Grant (Jr)
G- Biedscheid (SO)
F- Auguste (SO)
C- Sherman (5th)

G- Connaughton (JR)
G- Jackson (FR)
F- Knight (5th)
F- Beachem (FR)
F- Katenda (So)

Right? I've never seen Brey use a ten man rotation, but I guess it can happen.

Katenda is still probably a long shot to get into a solid rotation... He'll probably be used very sparingly, knowing Brey... And that is if he continues to recover from his eye injury.

I'd see the lineup

Starters............ Reserves
Atkins ............. Jackson
Grant.............. Connaughton
Biedschied ...... Sherman(?)
Auguste.......... Katenda(?)
Knight ........... Burgett(?)

Knight is just physically ahead of Sherman. Beachem sounds to me like a skinnier Biedschied, I think he needs a year in the weight room. Burgett likely needs a year to develop, and I see him having an Abro type game (except bigger/more post action). Sherman is good, but doesn't have the athleticism of Katenda, who needs to get up to speed on college bball/school.

I see a core 8 with Jackson the reserve guard, Connaughton the reserve wing, and one of the 3 (?) as the reserve big, with maybe 2 being used stretching it to 9.

I can't wait to see Eric Atkins face next year when he get's a breather at the midway point of the first half with DJ. I'm not sure he'll know where the bench actually is....

This is correct he talked with Brey was informed he would have very limited minutes and they agreed on following this course. Brey has said Joey's leadership is valuable to the team. I applaud both of them for finding a path that allows Joey Brooks to get his degree from ND and still have a chance to play some more basketball.

Both Atkins and Grant will have to battle for their starting spot next year. Demetrius is elite and is probably on the same level as Atkins and Grant right now.

He isn't coming here to sit the bench

Eh, he is really good, but he isn't going to start over those two guys. He'll get plenty of minutes though.

It's going to be awesome not having to play the same 2 guards for 35+ minutes a night. I expect to see all three guys share the 80 minutes pretty evenly with probably about ~28-30 minutes per player with us occasionally putting all three on the court at once.

Anyone know how good of a shooter Jackson is? The little I read on him made him sound like a pass-first point guard. The fatal flaw with all of our guards right now is that none of them are elite jump shooters.

Maybe not so much for Grant but Atkins definitely needs to watch out. D is far and away better at free throws, is a better shooter, and is about the same or could be a little better at ball handling.

And good Lord can he throw it down!!

I think Atkins may be the most under appreciated player on the team. He runs the offense and allows the team to run as a smooth machine on offense. Jackson is more of a play maker, but will lack a D1 lifting program, experience defending D1 players (think Biedschied) and while a good shooter now, it's an expanding part of his game, so don't expect a MacAlarney but more where Atkins is now. He'll play a lot, but he won't start.

BTW, it's imperative that we recruit another PG in the next class. Once Atkins is gone it will just be DJ.

I haven't seen the stats recently. But Atkins is still probably the highest percent shooting on the team.

At one point he had one of the highest 3 point percentages in the big East.

Atkins is really really good. Amazing TO to assist ratio. If demetrius is as effective as that, then maybe he'll contend.

My guess. Demtri will sub in for both Jerian and Eric. Will still give him solid minutes.

I have seen him play 3 times this year. He is the real deal. He draws double teams all the time and still leads the Northern Indiana Conference(NIC) in scoring at 28 points a game. He is great at driving to the rim and is excellent from behind the arc. But what really gives him the "wow!" factor is the way he dunks the ball. Neither Grant or Atkins can dunk the way he can, and he is only 6'1". His hang time is unreal, when he jumps it looks like he just freezes himself in mid-air.

Here is one of his dunks from last year. It was against my high school.<iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/ESL8LPQW4_k" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

I am really excited for Demetrius Jackson, but Eric Atkins is the leader of the team and has ran the offense the past two years. I do not think that Jackson is going to come in and unseat EA. Jacskon will get PT but Atkins' role as captain and leader is secure.

Why not next year have the starting five this:

G: Atkins
G: Jackson
G: Grant
F: Biedschied
C: Knight/Sherman

They are pretty much a perimeter oriented team relying on the center rebounding. Could get some nice drives or kickouts for open threes with that roster. First off the bench would be Auguste.

I'd rather them start Auguste at center and run. Knight and Sherman are better in small doses.

Up 43-32 at the half on DePaul.

Grant with 9, Cooley 8 & 6, Atkins 8 & 6, and Beidscheid 7 off the bench. Shermanator got some minutes and scored 4.

But they don't run. BURN BURN BABY BURN. I woud love to see them run more. Thet don't have "for sure" three point shooters ala Carrol, Quinn, Ingelsby. But wiht that line-up they could. I totally agree.

Who are we recruiting for the 2014 class? Philly do you follow NDBB recruiting?

I'd say most likely now is 6'9" Chicago center Sean O'Mara. Really want Trevon Bluiett but he seems to be favoring Indiana. MSU commit Drake Harris could be a name to watch. Really early right now so we'll see how things develop.
