I'm not sure why everyone thinks we've lost some recruiting Mo. Yeah the Manti story along with the BK interview took away some of our enthusiam as we trade opinions, but I've not seen a whole lot to indicate this class in starting to come apart.

Other coaches are coming at our commits, but that happens every year. Besides BK is out right now visiting our commits and setting the story straight.

Lots of people seem to have an inferiority complex. I to get negative at times but the truth is the past does not dictate the future.

... but the truth is the past does not dictate the future.

Actually that generalization is completely false; in fact, the past completely changes the future.

Think a Nazi victory.

A southern Civil War victory.

An Irish championship.

Yes my friend.

The past does affect and change the future.

The inferiority complex you speak of goes deeper: it's called learned helplessness more so than a complex. A result of getting beaten for long periods.

In the sense of truth I stand corrected. You are a truely one of the great thinkers of 21st century.

Although you are wrong int not in the case of events that are mutually exclusive. Now could argue the events are not mutually exclusive. I would argue though not landing player X in 2011has nothing to do with landing play Y in 2013.

Really? Cousins, friends, etc would disagree. AQM wanted in badly. And Williams from GA and Rochell see your argument and up you a 2014 commitment. (Fingers crossed.)

Or maybe that's what you meant...?

I concur. So do my young children. And my mom. Unfortunately my kids will grow up someday. The trees will shed their leaves. And IE will continue to waste my time rather than further employing neurons towards the greater wills of mankind.

Can anyone explain rivals' math for the recruiting class rankings? I just don't see how flooding the roster like SEC teams are known to do gives them an edge. I would put ours and Bama's 2013 class above Florida's. But 4 more low level recruits puts them right at the top? Weird.

Rivals is the only site that does discount oversigning. They only take into account the 20 highest rated recruits in the class.

Well who knows who we get, but it's pretty clear who we NEED the most. If you look at our roster and take the optimistic view [which isn't stretching reality] that we keep all present commitments, then Kelly is doing a pretty good job stocking "three-deeps" for the next three seasons. "Golson/ Kiel/ Zaire" is a ridiculously talented example, but you can do the same thing all over the place [RB: "Carlisle/ Mahone/ Bryant/ Folston" is even uber-stocked, as are CB and safety; even WR is loaded with playable excellence].

If we recruit TE intelligently next year, that is no problem either.[probably need two 2014s for the 2015 season]. We know our Oline troubles, and getting five is as much as we can do in one swoop; if we get four more next cycle we're OK. Bottomline, we've done what we need to on offense and in the DBackfield. BUT--- BOTH Dline and Linebackers are "short" when looking at the 2014-5 future. Anzalone hurt.

Linebacker looks great next year especially if Fox stays. Depth is very good. Linebacker looks OK "on the field" in 2014, but the depth has totally disappeared. This is especially true if Okwara goes to DE. In 2015, depth is basically non-existant. WAITING till "later" to train up freshmen linebackers at the last minute is not good strategy. Not everyone is Jaylon Smith. We could really have used Anzalone. We could really use Prevot; he!l, I would have stood and applauded Savanilaea.

In the DLine: no matter how you juggle the folks there, and no matter what your theories about DTackles are, we're short. Next season we will be kicka$$ great [if no injuries] and have good depth --- there is a respectable three-deep. In 2014 that depth evaporates, and unless Okwara or Jones becomes a Tuitt or Lynch-like monster, our previous eliteness also evaporates. This is why Vanderdoes and Fitts are significant. We need people to step up to join Day and very probably Rochell [and hopefully Okwara] to create the DLines that have been winning games for us and will continue to do so next year. As to 2015 --- good starters but a near horror show currently for back-ups.

No one should poo-poo the idea of being concerned with the Pipeline to 2015. Kelly is stocking every position on the team with the sustainable greatness future in mind. We might strike out on these late hopes in this cycle, and we might pull our butts out of the fire with a Tuitt and a Nix next year, but not trying to solve future troubles now is bad planning.

Kelly's no bad planner.

C'MOM, Eddie!!! Solve the biggest piece of this!!!

Wiltfong just reiterated that the buzz in San Antonio was that ND leads for Prevot. He could be our most likely get. Sapp corroborated: asked Prevot what he thought of ND's Redfield get, and Prevot smirked and said, no comment.

So I think Prevot is next.

Ugh, I was looking back through this thread and found this post. My bold prediction isn't looking good. We could still get Prevot but TAMU's chances are as good or better.

If we get anyone before signing day, I think it will be Smythe (mayybe Hollins; doubt it). I didn't think that was possible before today, as I thought Smythe was a "take only if there's room" prospect, but Sapp is hearing that the staff has re-evaluated and decided that we do need two TEs in this class (pretty sure I said that all along), so I think Smythe may have the green light to commit.

Side note: Can't help but wonder if the staff wishes it had tried harder to keep Mattingly, now that we are recruiting a second TE.

You two need to take this to the philosophy thread.

From KA. Nice little jab at the $EC. It is however, contrary to someone around these parts that has said they don't oversign. Hmmm...

"The Irish will never be a program that oversigns, a strategy that’s led to dominance by the SEC over the past few years".

Eddie Vanderdoes, Kylie Fitts, and Sebastian Larue are the remaining must-gets in my opinion. If this talk about ty Isaac is true (which I HIGHLY doubt), I'd add him on that list too.

Larue is out of the picture, otherwise I agree with you.

He isn't coming this weekend. Seems that the conditions he had to fulfill to get an actionable offer either wasn't fulfilled, or we have simply moved on with higher prospects on our board. Seems like a combination of the two.

Good luck Sebastian.

Probably not an option due to academic issues, and the staff isn't pushing hard for him, per Sapp yesterday.

I love LaRue but he would kind of duplicate Folston in this class, so I get why the staff has other targets higher on the board.

If I was forced to guess, I would say EV, Smythe, and one of Prevot, Hollins, or Fitts.

That is not a prediction--and getting EV is certainly a longshot--but I am not pessimistic about our recruiting in general at this point, and we have done a good job closing with DL.

Yeah Eddie V is a wayyyyyy long shot.

Pat Haden sat with his family last night at his sisters basketball game.

Lol.

They are pulling out all the stops in his recruitment.
