Manti is repped by one of the most powerful men in football: Tom Condon. He is in good hands right now with Condon who also has a JD; I think he has this under control. He will not let Manti go head-on into a witchhunt without having every t crossed and every i dotted. As has been stated, this is out of ND's hands. This is actually one of the best things to happen for Te'o in this situation.

Time is the most important thing right now for Manti and patience will prevail.

As for the nutjob reporters, these are the same type nutjobs who screwed up the Sandy Hook information so excuse me for not jumping at their every word.

I've also heard that Condon is one of the best in the business, but he seems to have made a huge tactical error in delaying Te'o's press conference on Monday. That allowed Deadspin to break the story (putting the worst possible spin on it), so now ND and Te'o have been on the defensive ever since.

Even if Te'o turns out to be 100% blameless, allowing others to launch the narrative has put him at a huge disadvantage. Whether or not Condon's decision to delay the press conference further was a good one has yet to be seen, but the longer this drags on without Te'o's input, the worse it will be. Our national attention span is so short these days that the possibility of any real damage control may have disappeared by the time Condon finally lets Te'o speak.

After the debacle with Trace Armstrong, I'm less inclined to give these guys the benefit of the doubt.

South Bend Sports Radio- 95.7 The Fan

South Bend Sports Radio- 95.7 The Fan

There's a local South Bend DJ named Craig Williams who is acting as if he's judge, jury and executioner of Manti Teo and Notre Dame. He works for 95.7 The Fan which has linked to his tweets on their Facebook page.

Here's a sample:
"South Bend television media makes me sick! If u think Teo is a victim, shame on you!"
and
"Does ND really think we are THAT stupid? Teo is FAR from a victim. He made up the g/f and rode it way too far."

We have to kind of assume that BK was considering bailing on all this mess when he was flirting with the Eagles, that would explain a lot of that poor timing.

It's one of the things that make me feel more confident in Manti though. He must have been confident that this was surmountable and explainable. (albeit it supremely strange.)

Pretty much nailed it. Remember, Napolean was once the best in the business and never made tactical errors.... then Waterloo happened.

Maybe Condon is playing catch up himself. I think Deadspin released the story sooner then desired after getting wind that ESPN was doing the same story.

Do you think the "anonymous teammate" issue is going to hurt team chemistry a bit? Any thoughts on the topic? I'm probably one of the less football knowledgeable people on this site, I wouldn't have a clue.

I don't buy the anonymous teammate bit. Easy way for the website to get clicks.

I don't think so... if it's someone still on the team, those loyal to Manti will weed him out and eat him alive.

I am watching news and they are saying that Manti gave two interviews subsequent to learning that the girl was a real. Yet he kept to his story. Now personally I really don't care whether this is a hoax or not, but it does explain why he was basically invisible during the NC game. Also I can't see how someone can have a girlfriend or get emotionally attached to someone you have never physically met. Seems strange.

Only if that person is fact real, I would guess so. There will be sanction to that person if they ever would be discovered. Just my opinion...

The whole "The Love of my life" statement and the way he said it and it was body language is very weird to me now.

Have you seen the documentary "Catfish?" Also, people meet online all the time nowadays. People playing MMO rpgs form relationships and spend a lot of time on Skype and other video streaming software to keep in contact. It's unconventional, sure, but it's not unheard of. I am really curious if Te'o ever Skyped with "Lennay."

I'm sure he could've skyped with the female who also played the voice of "Lennay."

Except they did hire a 3rd party company to evaluate and assess the Declan Sullivan events. Don't let facts get in the way of a good story tho.

And these were local situations, where the local District Attorney was involved.

But the pictures posted to the original @LennayKay account were from some random woman's FB page that had no affiliation with the hoax. If Te'o ever skyped with someone claiming to be Lennay, it was not the woman from the pictures.

Without reading back through every page, I don't if anyone else has raised this, but I've caught snippets of sports reporting on this and have to say it is very very shoddy, with a couple of exceptions.

The worst is this Bob Holtzman's sloppy character assassination, quoting an unnamed guy saying something like, "players knew Lennay was not Manti's girlfriend."

What the hell does that mean? She was someone else's girlfriend? They were just friends? They were internet buddies? She didn't exist? Well, Holtzman's smug recitation of this interview leaves it open to interpretation, but the clear impression he leaves is that Manti made it up or let the false impression linger, even though the whole team knew otherwise. This is crappy journalism, because (a) it's an unnamed source and (b) it's an ambiguous quote, and (c) he's using it create a misleading impression when he doesn't know the facts yet.

Putrid sensationalist reporting at its worst by a nobody reporter.

Good point, I did not think about the fake profile picture.

Perhaps they skyped, "but her screen was broken."

Catfish taught me that there is always a lame excuse to avoid face-to-face contact...

Also teeing me off a little are these talking head BS reporters shelling out advice and telling Swarbrick and the ND administration what they should have done and when and why and speculating and making inapt comparison to two year old sexual assault cases and a bunch of nonsense.

How about this? How about if you deadbeats get off your own tails and do a little genuine reporting for a change? How about if you stand up and ask people to back up the BS they say? Why not challenge each other to substantiate your crap opinions? All you have to say is "Bob, you are quoting an anonymous source. Why is that? Doesn't that weaken your report?" or "Bob, that's kind of an ambiguous quotation? What does it mean?" or "Gee, KT, there was a police investigation into the sexual assault, so isn't that a little different than the University hiring a PI in this case to see exactly what happened, since no one was protecting Notre Dame's interest?" or "Gee, Rick, you've had a hard on for Notre Dame all year. So now is a good time to settle scores, isn't it? Did you ever dig into this and try to find the obit in the "Carson City Vindicator?""

A lot of hypocrisy in the media. I don't know why I am angry or even surprised.

One of many memes circulating, SIAP

Real football?? Bama is good, no denying that... but lets be real. What a bunch of idiots. ND would smash any SEC team on a regular day to be honest... other than Bama of course. Even then, if ND plays Bama again I think it would be a close game.
