initial thought when this all broke was waiving a good chunk of this class goodbye, but i thought this was alot uglier for the university after one single article by deadspin..
consensus is thats not the case, and this class should hold up. and hopefully it stays that way.

OK so every media outlet knew about the MT story when his grand-mother and then suppose girl friend died. So with all the media outlets out there not one of them thought to get any information on her family or funeral to add to the reporting. Not one media outlet wanted to contact her family in regards to her relationship to MT? So how could all those media reporters who love to snoop for stories all fail to check out who this suppose girlfriend was. They took that she was real the same way MT did.
I feel really sad for MT that something like this was done to him and all that he must be going through right now. And lets remember he informed ND about this before any story broke and not after it broke so why would he do that if he had anything to do with it being a hoax?

The idea is that Manti created the fake girlfriend as a cover story. It didn't really come fromt anywhere, it's just what a lot of people have taken this ridiculous story to mean.

I'm a little confused, what would this young man gain by lying about a girlfriend? That just makes no sense. Who cares if he never actually met her, if it was an online thing, does any of that even matter? None of any of this has anything to do with his football career! The only reason its even in the news is because he is a public figure. I really don't think he made it all up and then said she died....for what? Attention? I'm pretty sure he doesn't need to go this far to get attention. Leave this poor young man alone, he was scammed let him get on with his life. Good luck in your future football career Manti, I look forward to watching you in the future where ever you may end up playing.

Honestly though, if he was gay it wouldn't be anymore shocking than any of the other facts we know.
The case for him being gay is that he got duped but was content with "having" a gf so he didn't dig on any of the obvious question marks surrounding the relationship. Whereas, any other college kid looking for love would get frustrated and start putting the pieces together.
Not saying I believe that to be the case in the slightest, but at this point.... Who the hell knows?

About the meeting thing at Stanford, I think this is what happened and it started it all. That girl (in the picture from a few pages back) walked up to manti and told him her name was kekua, she then handed manti her number. They maybe conversed a little bit and they went their seperate ways. He then began to text and call her and the rest of the story is what we know as far as the leukimia and all those details. So yes he actually had face to face contact with her in the very beginning and when he skyped that was the girl. I may be all wrong about this but it sounds like a plausible thing to me.

I'm just embarrassed by the whole situation. My heart tells me there's nothing to be embarrassed about but for the first time in my life I have nothing to say in response to all my ND hater friends. My mind is still blown, I still don't know what's going on and I really hope this doesn't hurt the University in the long run.

Probably not in the article, but a lot of forums and speculation are connecting dots that Lennay was a cover up for Manti. I think that theory has been debunked with the twitter information found, but meh. I'm going to be interested to see what Manti says later.

Sure this has been posted, but I can't read through this whole forum thread. Anyway, if Manti did fake this on purpose, he is the greatest evil genius in the world. To put on that act in interview after interview, in pep rallies, and probably every single day on campus... crazy. That's a major reason I believe he was hoaxed, among other things.
