No way that offense works in the NFL.

Agree, he'll have to make some adjustments.

What does everyone think about this. He said he was staying then leaves. At least BK didn't do that.

Kelly was targeted back in November or even earlier but this came out of nowhere today, they must have paid him big and gave him control of what he wanted. I hope this isn't Bobby Petrino 2.

C'mon college guys you know him tell me this wont be a disaster.....

LAWLZ. I know lots of Eagles fans. I don't think it transitions to the NFL but we'll see. High risk/High reward

Have to wonder if he knows sanctions are coming. Not sure this is a good hire for the Eagles, but since I am a Panthers fan, I am just fine with it.

After watching Kapernick in SF and Wilson in Seattle, I don't see why he can't run a similar system and have success. They might just keep Vick...

Tebow to the Eagles as the back-up being groomed to take over as Vick ages??

Blah. He's a shell of his former self and you want him to now take MORE hits?

Draft Geno if you want to go that route.

As long as this thread didn't have a "Brian" in front of "Kelly"...

Geno is a pocket passer. They're only similar in that they're black.

Sure, he's lost a step or two, but he's still faster and more atletic than most guys in the league. This is the sort of offense that he would thrive in. If this were three or four years ago, even moreso.

He couldn't take any more hits than he does now. At least he wouldn't have to stand back there as a target.

I'm all for drafting Geno as the next guy in.

I see a lot of people saying "his system won't work" in the NFL. I used to be on that boat, and true enough the NFL I grew up with in the 1990's and early 2000's it wouldn't have worked. But times they are a changin'.

The rules are changing at the expense of the defense in favor of the offense. They are doing it in the name of "player safety" and I'm sure that's one consideration. Another consideration is American's have short attention spans and always want MOAR POINTZZZ. Scoring=more eyeballs=more ad revenue=more $$$.

Secondly the Patriots, the 49ers, the Redskins, and the Seahawks all run variants of Kelly's offense. While Kelly certainly couldn't run his offense out of the spread all the time in the NFL...you could say that about any offense. You can't run the power I formation 100% of the time either. I think Kelly's smart enough to tailor his offense around the NFL.

I do feel sorry for Oregon fans for how this all went down. Though some of their fans got on my nerves I actually kind of like Oregon and hope they don't fall completely off the map.

As an aside...if any of the Oregon girls need comforted in this time of crisis I am there for them...

Apparently I was wrong about one thing in my take about the BK/Eagles situation. I was never worried BK would go to Philly because I felt that the Eagles couldn't possibly actually hire BK for the job unless they were incompetent, and now it certainly appears that they are. They have been OBSESSED with the idea of hiring a college coach based on their apparent assumption that the pro game is turning into the college game. Personally, I think they misidentified the trend based on a handful of mobile QBs coming into the league and are making a foolish bet that the successful teams in the future will need coaches that currently understand the college game.

Yah because who would hire a college coach with no NFL ties or clout.

This is just goes to show you how close it was to it being our Kelly.

Maybe on their end. On BK's end it still would have been a step down. I certainly stand by that point (and I don't think the same is true for Chip and the Oregon job, especially with sanctions coming), and I think that was proven by BK coming back to ND.

1) Really surprised Eagles circled around and got him.

2) Anxious to see who he brings on staff (college, NFL, both?)

3) QB situation will be interesting.

4) He is smart enough to know he can't run the same exact offense in the NFL that he did in the PAC 12

5) I'd be pissed off if I were an Oregon fan today

Actually, I think they are in the right here. When I think of the QB position, I think of three tiers. Tier A would be the Brady, Manning boys, Rogers, etc. Tier B would be Big Ben, Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck, etc. IMO there are between 10 and 15 QB's that you could argue belong in those top 2 tiers. After that, the remaining QB's are more of a liability than an asset. The only way to try and level the field is to have a RG3, R Wilson or Colin K type of player that evens the playing field. Watching DE's, OLB and saftey's being stuck like a deer in headlights against these types of players changed my mind completely. I think the offense can be successful, but you need a guy that can both run and pass. Looking at the crop of QB's coming out of college the last few years, I tihnk the chances of getting a Tier one or tier 2 QB is getting slimmer and the ability to draft a R wilson is growing. Why not have a coach that can scheme an offense that can flourish with out without that top QB talent?

Whatever happens, it's going to be entertaining.

I also happen to think it's worth trying to import a college offensive system wholesale. The fact that Monte Kiffin, NFL defensive guru, was stumped seems to be a positive indicator.

Oh, and the run/pass QBs are going to keep coming to the NFL because college programs will not stop churning them out.
