I can not remember a ND coach that ever left ND for another job. I thought ND finally found the right guy to lead their program for years and now this. The team is still suffering the letdown from the loss and now to have to endure these rumors has to be really tough on them. And I don't understand why he is reported to be out of the country right now. You would have thought that since they had just played he would have been back at ND getting his team settled back into school and wrapping things up. To me him not being around ND right now talks a lot about what he is planning to do. Leave.

Another first post. Hmmm...

As mentioned in the Keith Arnold article above this may be more about Diaco & Co. Kelly was going to get paid no matter what, now he'll probably get more. But it should help to get the assistance new deals and that can help insure longevity amongst the staff. Plus, after going up against Bama and seeing where we want to be maybe there are some things that Kelly thinks he needs to get to that level. This could just be a way to force Swarbricks hand in negotiations.

I think he's an incredible teacher, motivator, recruiter, and politician.

For the most part, the teaching angle is left to assistants in the NFL, there is no recruiting per se, and professionals don't need to be motivated.

I think he'll be great at any level he chooses one day, he just needs to prove he can deliver the whole ball of wax at this level first.

I find it oddly perfect timing that Kelly goes on a vacation right after this hits the NFL rumor mill. This has all the makings of a contract negotiation tactic.

and professionals don't need to be motivated. man, don't tell Ray Lewis...obviously I disagree

I think he's proven enough already...we'll see...I think it boils down to what he said about teaching...if it was true, he'll stay

Notre Dame's a pressure cooker. It's the best and the worst job in college football. The pressure got to Ara, and he was a better coach. I'm cool if Kelly goes or stays. He needs to do what's right for himself, and I'm not talking money.

My take...
Eagles: Hey Brian, we wanted to talk to you about our coaching vacancy and gauge your interest for the position...

Kelly: Yea sure, I'm about to leave the country with family but I'll hear you out once I get back...(to kids) I told you to have your stuff packed,, already, what the heck guys?

(Hour passes)

Eagles (to each other): Yea, he is definitely interested...I mean, he said he would hear us out...Let's leak this sh*t....

Armstrong to Mort and Schefty "BK just got off the phone with the Eagles. Make me some money."

Unfortunately, Hamilton, whom has a lot of inside track info with respect to Kelly, has said he ain't outta the country.

Maybe they took a short trip to Windsor Canada to bet on the likelihood of the IE board melts down over this news to make the extra cash Jack hasn't offered him for an extension

Obviously Swarbrick can't just rush to campus and call a press conference if he has nothing to say but I would have liked to have heard something, anything from him. Even if it was just the standard "we're aware that coach is intervieiwing" line.

Anybody worried that Jack might have been caught off guard here after all of those glowing comments on Monday?

How about with the fact that EEs arrive in three days, NSD is less than a month away and this is all happening now? Seems like very poor timing for a guy whose planning to stick around to blow this much capital with recruits.

Not trying to be reactionary, in fact, just hoping to have somebody calm me down a bit. Wish one of you were here to give me a good smack on the head or something.

What's weird is I'm so shocked he would just even consider leaving. Yet again, you can't blame the guy, he just took ND to it's best season in 2 decades... I'm pretty happy with that. I'm so confused though.

Well....I can blame him plenty. The timing is terrible. Again, we're three weeks from NSD, three days from EEs arriving on campus. That's just not a smart thing to do unless you're bag are already packed.

I honestly do not think the timing matters in any way. If we were playing a bowl game December 21, he would have interviewed sometime shortly after. It just so happened that we were in the NCG which is right up against the time our EE's are coming to town. IrishMob'13 will stay intact as will Coach Brian Kelly.

It's a smart move if you're trying to force your boss's hand in a contract negotiation and get the $$$ asap. Pretty good leverage when you consider he had all the bargaining power before we laid an egg in the MNC game. This was a perfect move to offset that negative going into contract negotiations.

If this happens I will really and I mean really be surprised BUT more importantly I think it is a huge statement on the state of college football. Here is my drift. This fine coach has just put one of if not the most storied programs in his sport back on the map and he may leave just on the cusp of a tremendous recruiting class. All the while keep in mind that now he knows he would see the tremendous pull of Notre Dame for recruits and a bright if not brilliant next few years. WHY-because he just saw a very good COLLEGE football team dismantled by PRO FOOTBALL SOUTH playing with a stacked deck of admissions/conference culture of dont tell. Maybe in his heart he knows for the next however long the sec under the current structure I just mentioned will continue and pile them up. These men such as BK are good /great coaches and competitve men who want to win. My opinion is that if this happens it says more about the stacked deck that college football has become rather than directing any critisim against Brian Kelly. Connect the dots here boys Brian Kelly is no quitter.

An NFL team interviewed Brian Kelly.

What were they thinking?

Don't they read NDNation?
