#NotreDame HC Brian Kelly on NFL: "It's flattering if there is interest, which I don't know that there is."

#NotreDame HC Brian Kelly says "protocol" for NFL teams would be to contact his agent. "That happens when you win football games," he says.

He also said he has the best job in the country but didnt exactly say he wouldn't have any interest in NFL jobs

Contrast that with what Saban said: @McMurphyESPN: Alabama's Nick Saban on NFL: "I don't have any unfinished business in the NFL. It's not even something I want to do"

Don't know the context of the comment but I'd surely prefer no comment whatsoever, especially two days out. Didn't hear the Q asked or how it was asked - so maybe he had to say something. Just reading what's above isn't especially reassuring, though I won't read too much into it at this point.

Also have to figure in that if he wants the big raise and extension he needs to play the cards right.

A couple years ago people said he'd never coach because he's a spread coach, but the NFL is more of a spread game than ever and if Chip Kelly can coach in the NFL, Brian Kelly's offense certainly would work.

@ISDUpdate: Kelly said he would never completely rule out NFL. Says there was a time he never would have thought he would be at ND #bcschampionship

I think there are a lot of people out there that agree with you, but I am not one. When Kelly was at Grand Valley State and led them to their championships like he did, his last year at GVS the exact same scanrio came up, Cincinnati reached out and offered him a job and he got up and left GVS to start working at Cinci. I don't recall anyone throwing a fit when he let GVS to Cinci, though all of these Bearcat fans want to throw a tantram when it comes around and happens to them. People are so quick to judge BK for leaving his players before the bowl game, yet those same people never realized Cinicinnati put Grand Valley State and it's players in the same exact position, but no one ever thinks of that because it was GVS. Quit living in the past and move on, Kelly knew he had to get started right away here at ND with what Weis left him and waiting around for after the bowl game would have only hurt ND. I'm sure the same people griping about him leaving early for ND, would be the same people crying that he stayed to coach Cinci in their bowl game and not come to ND to get started right away.

The problem with your statement is that you completely left out CMU which is where he was in between GV and Cinci.

This is all getting to be one big headache

I will be very very unhappy with Swarbrick if he lets Kelly walk

All of you who said it was absurd to entertain the idea of Kelly ever going to the NFL, take a lap.

Kelly is not leaving. Heck I would say its not out of possibility if I am a really good coach.

Serious question here, because again I don't know the context of whatever presser or interview is taking place. Why is BK even entertaining any kind of discussion of this sort two days before the game? Is he not in a position to say that it is all about the team right now, and nothing else is relevant?

He is being asked those questions. He isn't bringing it up himself

He did. He said that right now that this game was his only focus and that he's not even sure if there has been any interest in him though it would flattering if so.

If you just take the comments that were made dierctly to the question asked, I was a little worried. But, after watching the entire presser, it is very obvious he loves what he is doing and he is more of a college guy than an NFL guy.

As an aside: The answer he gave regarding the type of people he recruits was awesome. "You HAVE to love the game, love what you do." That's the kind of athlete he is looking for. You don't always get that in the NFL.

Thanks, guys! This is what I was looking for because I was only reading the quotes posted above, which in isolation I knew might not represent the tone and spirit of the discourse. I feel better now.

This thread is absurd. Anyone seriously talking about BK going to the NFL is just trying to connect dots from 10,000 feet. There is no way Kelly is leaving ND. Not only is he more suited for college, but an NFL job wouldn't even be a step up for him. ND is a better job than any available in the NFL.

Not leaving now, but it's possible in a few years. I mean, he says it's possible.

Ok fine, but why is that something we're talking about now? Two days from the title game we're burning up a thread about him leaving for the NFL......in a few years? ND coaches have a limited shelf life. This isn't a job you keep for 3 decades. So maybe someday he will try the NFL. It won't be next season, though, so who cares right now?

This is my opinion and I'm entitled to it : This is a Gawd-awful thread which smells of people just trying to stir something up for which there is no responsible data whatsoever. VERY close to the definition of trolling.
