It doesn't bother me that he's being mentioned. It bothers me that Clayton reported that he has interest in an NFL job. If he just pulled that out of his *** he's the biggest troll walking.

Mute point!!! The John Clayton report I saw was referring to Chip Kelly from Oregon not Brian Kelly Of(the greatest school ever to grace this planet). :)

As much as I agree that he stays at ND for a very long time, I have learned to never say never. You don't get to the biggest stage without having an ego, and egos need to be fed.

I really trust Swarbrick. I think he would have had the "this is NOT a stepping stone job" discussion with Kelly before hiring him. Not concerned at all, Kelly isn't going anywhere.

Nail meet the hammer.

As much as BK deserves the accolades, Swarbrick is the man behind the curtain. Having read a lot about Swarbrick and his contributions to Indy, this guy leaves no stone unturned. I wouldn't doubt for one minute that he had this discussion with BK. Any buyout might be too big of a pill to swallow for most teams that would be interested.

Clayton was on the radio here in Chicago yesterday saying that BK wants the NFL and the Bears are intrigued with him.

Kept calling him "That Notre Dame Coach"

It was a bit strange, and I believe, made up.

Kelly has stated over and over that his passion is developing 18-21 boys into men through football and academics.

I also agree with the Swarbrick comments.

I think Chip Kelly would go especially with the reported Oregon investigations. There has been a lot of success this year with read option offense in the NFL.

BK would never leave ND for Chicago. The windy city is to far away from Irish Chocolate and BK loves him some chocolate!

Until he actually starts interviewing I'm not going to be concerned. He's on the path to become a legend at Notre Dame, which he'd always said was his dream job anyway.

We are not dealing with the Charlie Weis job-hopper type, c'mon

Why are people talking about Kiffin to the NFL? I personally like him where he is. lol

Because of his stellar performance with the Raiders. Who would have thought that crazy old Al Davis was dead on, when it came to Kiffin?

He is a prime example of a kid that has been handed everything b/c of their father. He has been exposed over and over. No way in hell a NFL will take him. I wouldn't hire him as a coodinator. Yes he can recruit at sC but my dog could recruit there. He is such a smug cocky dude with nothing to back it up (except his hot wife). Again, thanks dad!

For the record if Kelly does go to the Bears I am done with the Bears. Thats rights 25 years of being a Bear's fan out the window. You mess the ND and I can no longer support you no matter who it is.

I actually hope the Bears blow it make a stupid hire rather than hire Kelly.

I'll have to start rooting for Colts with some of you folks down in Indy.

The Bears is probably the single best job out there. Everything is there and there is very little rebuilding to do.

I agree. However because of that you will walk in already on the hot seat. Heck the guy they fired just won 10 games. Anything short of beating the packers for the division title is a complete and utter failure.

In my opinion he is a college coach. If you guys are worried he is leaving, listen to his introduction speech. One other thing is he will make a lot more money here than in Chicago, that I will guarantee.

Agreed. His schemes would work in the NFL, but he's more of a "development guy," as opposed to a "schematic guy." To be in the NFL you have to be a schematic expert (e.g. Charlie Weis).

I don't know I just would leave the best job in college football for the next NFL job, considering everything about Kelly. He's set at Notre Dame for the near future at a minimum, the NFL can change in an instant.

But let's play Devil's Advocate, with emphasis on Devil. Who would Notre Dame go after to replace Kelly?

I've heard ND is prepared to go after David Shaw so that we can finally bury the hatchet with Jason Whitlock and Mike Wilbon :reporter:

That's not a good conversation at all IMO.

It can be, between mature adults.

If Kelly were abducted by aliens tomorrow, who would you want to replace him? It's as simple as that.

The obvious answer is Jon Gruden.

I would give it to Diaco. I know first time head coaches are not usually the best but it would keep this team the same the most. He is a superstar and would be replacing one coach or maybe a couple in case Kelly takes anyone.

You are right. Bears are so cheap! As I mentioned in another; George Halas is rolling over in his grave by the fact that the Bears are going to have to pay Lovie next season not to coach for them.

I don't know that Diaco is ready to be the HC at Notre Dame.

Come on down. We'll always have room. With the way Mr. Luck has performed I think it's gonna be another nice run just like our time with PM.
