Not to pile on, but adding to Ironman8's comments, Folston is a tremendously versatile athlete. Even if he fails to win any offensive carries in 2013, he's very likely to end up on ST. I don't think a redshirt is in his future.

I hope you're right. Would love to see him on ST. If he can play RB and DB, he can play just about anything on ST. perhaps he can kick too :). I do think though that one of the 2013 RBs will redshirt. I read somewhere that Carlisle is going to be strickly an RB, so me thinks whoever catches the best between Folston and Bryant will get PT next year.

Should we burn a redshirt just to put him on special teams? Unless he can crack the 4 man RB rotation we use, I don't think he should waste a year catching a few punts or kick returns.

First off we need all the help on ST we can get, so if he can come in early and contribute to making our ST better I really hope that happens.

Second, some players are simply not 5 year guys, meaning that there is no benefit to sitting them out a year even if they are not a starter because they will not, in a likelihood, be here all 5 years anyway. If Tarean is good enough to contribute to our team early (which I think he and Bryant both are), even if he is not a major factor, I hope he is on the field helping us win in '13.

By this logic, no way Okwara would have played this year.

I think Kelly puts the guys on the field that can help the team the most.

That's not to say that he doesn't think about wearing out starters on special teams or about eligibility concerns, because of course he does. He has said that if he had greater depth at WR, T.J. Jones would be on special teams. Also, if guys aren't ready to play in the first half of the season, whether due to inexperience (DvD in 2012) or injury (Hounshell in 2013), he holds them out all year so they don't blow a year of eligibility on a partial season. But having said all that, if a guy has the athleticism to make a major contribution, even if only on special teams, Kelly plays him (Neal, Okwara this year).

All I can say is, if you told me in late august, when Folston's Cocoa team was playing G. Bryants Heritage team on espn that they would both be Irish, id say ur crazy.... This is completeley unreal, now bring home the crystal ball

Tarean just took part in the hands competition. Christian on ISD was extremely impressed with how good his hands are. Only missed the balls that sailed over his head.

Congrats on the Committ Tarean! Theo's replacement has arrived!

Hot Damn! Bryant and Folston are gonna be a nasty combo, on top of Amir, GAIII, maybe a little bit of Anzalone( haha unlikely). Unfortunately this doesn't look well for our beloved Cam McDaniel, though I'm sure he'll still see the field somehow, special teams for sure. But this is a good, if not great problem to have!

GO IRISH!

Provided Folston and Bryant work hard when they get to ND. Over the next two years we'll have the best backfield that we've had in a very long time.

Do you happen to know who was throwing?

I'm sorry man but there is no possibly way anyone can say this with any semblance of certainty. We are losing our top 2 backs and then will have the great luxury of having a stable of Folston, Bryant, Carlisle, Atkinson, Mahone and McDaniel battling it out for carries in '13. No one can know right now how that will play out, but I think the one thing we can be sure of happening is that the competition will bring out the best in all of them.

Can you imagine Coach Alford's eyes spinning just thinking about all the guys that he has to put on the field? He has to be loving it!!!

Coach: Folston Stands Out On, Off Field

“They’re going to get a good football player,” the coach said. “He’s a great competitor and he’ll do whatever is asked of him. He’s going to be where he’s supposed to be when he’s supposed to be there. He’s just a good kid.”

“He’s a high character guy,” said Wilkinson. “He’s a yes-sir, no-sir guy. He’s going to work hard. He’s going to be one of the first at all of the meetings, the last one to leave. He studies film. He knows how to do things the right way.”

“It’s a great program, they’re winning,” Folston told Irish Sports Daily of Notre Dame on Monday. “They have a few backs leaving, so…I could jump right in and play with Greg Bryant, also out of Florida. It’d just be a great situation.”

He again reiterated Bryant’s commitment as a factor in Notre Dame’s favor.

“That actually helps,” he said. “All of the pressure wouldn’t be on me and I wouldn’t be taking all of the hits, we would just split the time up. I don’t mind sharing it as long as we get the job done.

Great team first attitude that you won't find in 99% recruits. Love it.
