ESPN gives Elmer no love?

"OL: Steve Elmer, 6-6, 305, Midland (Mich.)
Breakdown: This is one player that could easily start at the very beginning of his college career. Elmer moves extremely well for his size and completely dominated every rep he took."

4 star, 81 ratings. Sound like love to me.

I guess it's all relative. Rivals has Elmer as the #4 OT, #56 player overall. 247 has him as the #19 OT and #223 overall. ESPN has him as the #28 OT and not even in the top 300 players nationally. Crazy disparity.

If they say he can step In as a true freshman at Oline and play well that's as big of a compliment as you can really get. At least in my opinion.

In reality, Rivals is the outlier there.

Yeah. The point was just to explain what we mean when we say ESPN gives Elmer no love ... he is way lower even than 247's low ranking.

Scout, by the way, is closer to Rivals ... #8 OT, #85 overall. It's so weird that two services have him in the top 100 and two services have him not even close.

When do the EE's get to campus? Would love to see Elmer compete for some time next year.

I believe classes start January 15th. That's a Tuesday and that is when their enrollemnt becomes official. I assume they'll move in the weekend prior, especially since orientation is on the 14th.

Thanks. Very excited about Elmer. I think him committing early really helped put this class on the map.

I really don't know when the players actually report. It very well may be the 7th, as rtn2glory said. I was just indicating when orientation for all students is held and when the semester begins.

If Elmer really IS in Jake Long's neighborhood, we have less problem next year with a thin O-Line veteran crew.... and the future.... yow!! If we can just sneak by next year on Center position [C'mon, big Matt!] and depth, the solidity possible for Notre Dame's Bigs on both sides of the ball is staggering for years.

With this apparent powerful foundation, Kelly is ensuring BCS type quality for the foreseeable future. .... and, I still think of how we were one non-turnover QB from two double-diget win seasons in his first two years, any doubt that Kelly is an instant Faith-Healer of a Football coach should evaporate and blow an ill-wind south.

Gentlemen we have found a messiah. ND football is going to be a lot of fun [and {proper} braggadocio] from now on.

Elmer has a good frame with long arms but they have him at LT. I think he's going to have to play RT. His feet aren't quite good enough for LT

Hasn't that always been the knock on Elmer?

You know, Sherm, I think there has always been a knock against Steve, and I cannot figure out why. Do you see anything wrong with him? I don't; and [imo] I don't think anything about playing on the line in highschool is a predictor of college succes or talents.

From what we've heard about Stanley it wouldn't surprise me if they Do put Elmer at RT. They have always said that they like to have the best 5 lineman on the field. Best way for Elmer to get to the field seems like RT.

The Chemics were very run heavy when i saw them play. they dont pass the ball much so i think its fair to say that his pass blocking techniques will be something the staff will be working on with him. not to say hes not a good pass blocker but its probably something he hasnt done much of thus far

Per JC Shurburtt, Elmer was the top OL during the West team's 1-on-1's in practice today. Notably stoned Prevot on back to back tries.

Eddie V and Jaylon seem to be the two most dominant at the practice.

Can we have all 3 (or 4?). I mean we already have 2! Glad to see Elmer is back to performing well after a couple of down camps. Most of us had a feeling it would be the case, but glad to see it nonetheless. We have a great class this year.

EDIT: JC said Elmer beat AShawn Robinson as well. Elmer has "Good feet and showed excellent pass blocking ability."

Interesting. I have to think he'll get a ratings bump from 247 after this ... his 247 ranking is criminally low.

If Elmer can stone both a massive DT type and a pure speed OLB type...damn that is just downright impressive.
