Well i will simply say this my friend, They should be an adult and make a rational and self conscious decision weighing the risks of their career choice... If they do not want to risk their health, well i guess they should use that degree they received from college???
You're trying to make excuses for their decisions... Ridiculous... no one holds a gun to their head makes them play football... it's their choice... You call us uneducated, these players should be educated on the risks not us...

You do realize that the players union has been putting constant pressure and litigation upon the NFL for concussions, right? You do realize that the league is financially responsible for the healthcare of a great deal of former players, right?

Should we not put OSHA regulations in plants? Should there be no FDA regulations on restaurants? After all, we choose to work at plants and eat at restaurants. I guess under your logic we should all be responsible for those risks, right?

The fact remains is the only reason you guys don't like rules on head to head contact is because of your own selfish reasons. Regardless, the rules are indeed in place and the players play under these rules. So the players aren't making these supposed "risks" that you talk about because they play with the understanding that they are protected from the arcane style of play that you feel they should have to be subjected to. They have gotten these rules in collective bargaining through their union representatives. Their "career choice" is made with the understanding that the NFL has put safeguards in place, like all american industries, to protect them from dangers both known and unknown.

This is honestly the most infuriated I've ever been with another poster on this board. Football is a sport, not a death match. I don't want the athletes that play football in order to entertain me to have to risk their lives (and those of their spouses and kids) in order to participate. We aren't savages and this isn't Ancient Rome. I want to watch football, and I want world class athletes to be able to play it like they do the other sports. I'm going to go now; I don't need to subject myself to this kind of stupidity tonight of all nights.

Have you ever taken the time to research the subject of head trauma in sports. Ever read a book about it, ever watch a documentary on the topic?

Im guessing that you haven't. But this absolute disregard for your own lack of knowledge on a subject hasn't stopped you from spouting off a bunch crap regarding it, per usual.

You can make a million rules for "helmet to helmet" hits. The truth is they will always exist. Good coaches teach their defensive players to tackle, head up, wrap and drive your face mask through your opponents numbers (High cloth). A split second or a couple inches can separate a text book tackle from helmet to helmet. It is a part of the game.
It's a violent sport, which means players need to be violent on the field. They know the risks, which is why they get paid huge money. Quite or retire if you don't want to get injured.

Most of the hits in question don't follow this method. You don't see anyone wrapping up and driving thru. Too many players are trying to blow up the ball carrier, make the big hit, knock the ball loose.

James Harrison is kind of the poster boy for blowing people up. Now he's saying he's going for the knees so he want get fined. What about the three feet or so between their helmet and their knees? He's not coordinated to hit that space but he can hit their helmet?

I appreciate the big hits but I don't buy into the Harrison type players. I think the NFL is trying to make an effort to protect the players even if it is in reality an effort to protect the NFL brand. Maybe it's not perfect but to not try to make the game safer is a bigger mistake.

Do you not watch the news? The nature of these injuries don't usually cause immediate death (on the field). They cause a deterioration that ends with guys killing themselves, and sometimes others. They lead to relatively young men (younger than my father) who are incapable of dressing and feeding themselves.

I don't want to watch track, I want to watch football. And it's only going to survive as a sport if athletes can play it without ruining their lives. That doesn't mean putting flags on guys, it means guys' heads have to be off-limit. Boxing is obviously different because the whole sport is guys hitting each other; it literally wouldn't be the same sport if you changed the rules. That just isn't true for football (despite absurd statements to the contrary from delusional fans). Also, boxing is something barely anyone cares about now because the best athletes would never box. Is that what you want to happen to football?

Thats why i brought up boxing... I remember in the 90's it was a hot topic in the media and even in politics "how violent boxing is"... of course they're are many other reasons why the sport died out... One of my best friends died in a football game in the 10th grade from a helmet to helmet hit. Yea it was a rare thing but devastating to the whole community.

We can't have world class athletes playing football if the zebras are limiting their game by throwing a flag on every hard hit. Just make it flag football if they are trying to prevent concussions because as of today it's the closest thing to flag football that I have seen. Concussions are a part of every sport and the NFL is the only league trying to limit them. Baseball players get concussions by getting hit in the head by a 100 mph fastball. I don't see Bud Selig going out and telling every pitcher "for now on if you throw a fastball faster than 85 mph then the umpires will throw a flag". In NASCAR, the guys are driving 200 mph and they crash all the time, a guy dies just 10 years ago! NASCAR didn;t come out and say "for now on any car that goes faster than 50 mph will be suspended a race". They are still driving faster than I ever will!

The NFL is trying to stop something that can"t be stopped. Concussions will always happen until the right technology gets here. It's a part of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for players safety but what they are doing now isn't working so do something else

I say that because your analogy doesn't make sense in regards to the "head to head" rule. In baseball, throwing at a batter's head can result in an automatic ejection. The rules in football regarding head to head contact and baseball's rules for throwing at a batter's head are almost identical in punishment.

I have seen plaenty of batters get in the head (myself included), the pitchers get a warning but I haven't seen them get immediately ejected unless the batter and pitcher had beef before that at bat.
