Not worried at all. If we look at the time table to the game and assume he started yesterday that gives him two week to game plan for Bama and one week to implement the plan. One has to figure the game plan wont be too complicated since Bama is pretty simplistic offensively. Best way I can think to say is it's one of the easiest game plans we've had to make all season, but it will be the hardest to execute.

I am quite sure Wooly was not suggesting we worry that the study us just beginning. Perhaps he can speak directly to that point, but I for one am supremely confident in this staffs collective ability to prepare and plan for this game against this team. These guys are locked in.

Nick Saban said a similar thing to the extent his game plan doesnt begin til 2 weeks prior... its a dead period, hes not interviewing, kids have exams... I think coffee is well supplied and hell be set to go.

Anyone notice how Diaco sized up everyone in the room and ranked them in order of strength. You know just in case he had to bounce out, the karate chops and laser eyes were locked and loaded. I am going to hate losing this guy.

So what do the coaches do for the first three weeks?

Maybe you hadn't noticed, but we have had as many coaches as allowed by the NCAA on the road the past few weeks recruiting the hell out of '13 and '14 kids, with obvious great results.

Obviously BK and Diaco, specifically, have had even more on their plate then others recently. 2 weeks is more than enough time to prepare for an opponent.

I noticed...

I just figured that with the extra time to prepare, there would at least be some film breakdown, discussion and pre-game planning going on. Two weeks is plenty of time, but you don't get a chance to go to the title game very often. So it's just seems weird to not take advantage of every moment available.

I think there is more self scouting at the beginning. What are our strengths/weaknesses/tendencies, get our younger kids some quality reps, get guys who need it healthy, and start oiling the machine then boom-bama prep.

You asked what they did the first three weeks (rhetorically or not) and I answered man, that's all. I am sure there have been coaches / staff putting together and breaking down Bama film over the past couple of weeks, but again, 2 weeks is more than enough time to prepare for a single football game, especially when you are a team that is relatively basic on D (meaning we do not really change our style of D for opponents or employ exotic looks) going against another team that is pretty basic on O.

IMO, I don't believe Diaco's statement was 100% truthful about not doing ANY game study yet, probably more posturing for the reporter's question by not wanting to volunteer any more information than absolutely necessary.

I think this was part of his response as well. Don't think they have been game planning that much yet but diaco never likes to give away info

Props to Kelly. After Navy debacle everyone wanted to throw Diaco under bus and run him over again and again and again. Kelly could have and Kelly did not. This breeds loyalty and family and success.

Late as usual. One of the things ND has been doing is spending time with the younger kids. Getting them reps. Another huge thing is breaking bad habits. Self-policing is king at the beginning. Kelly said it in an interview recently, maybe yesterday. No shortcuts in 11 on 11 against teammates. No tells.

In regards to the whole Alabama study thing with Diaco.

Kelly said they were going to split the bowl practices in distict periods.

Pre Christmas Break: Training camp/preseason type practices, focus mainly on player developement across the board (although perhaps with an emphasisis on yonger players)

Post Christmas Break: 2 full weeks of Alabama game preparation.

I'm sure the coaching staff will break down the film over the December 21-27 period. I assume they will have staff meeting before guys come back to practice on the 28th and will be ready to put in their game plan.

ND has held 6 practices now already, and is starting to focus on Alabama. Alabama will hold their first practice today, and has not started on ND yet. Perspective.

Alabama doesn't need to practice bro. Give Saban over a month to prepare for an opponent and he will win 100% of the time.

I've been thinking about this a lot actually. The Bama late start intrigues me. Saban is not the god some make him out to be but only an idiot would say he doesn't know what he's doing. BK has been a coach but this much of a layoff is new to him. Supposedly he called Chip Kelly, and Gene Chizik for advice on the practice schedule.

If Bama is just now starting now I assume they are not getting as long of a break for Christmas. Heck maybe Nick the Grinch Saban got the state government to cancel Christmas in the state of Alabama.

I looked at ND schedule and they do have a heavy amount of practices leading up to the bowl game. So I am going trust BK and the staff on this one but I am nervous ND maybe peek too early.

On the Bama boards they believe that by starting looking at their opponent this early we are "overthinking" things and will psyche ourselves out by over game-planning. They think BK will learn a lot "from the master" after this NC game on how to prepare.

Like Utah in 08. When Alabama came out in the first half competely unprepared for their spread offense, and could pass block to save their lives.
