It's wild how the ranking can drop, but the rating can increase...

Told a Michigan recruiting insider that he "knows for a fact" he and Mason Cole will attend the same school.

Pretty interesting with Cole dropping the Florida schools. I thought Scott was a lock to stay in state. Second best receiver in FL in 2014 after Ermon Lane.

Do want.

He and Cole were visited by Alford today. Wiltfong is hearing we are in great shape with Scott. Combine that with what we know about Cole and we have a great chance at both of them.

These are two guys that WalMart Wolverines are all over in Twitter. I swear they tweet at recruits 24/7 365 .

Looks like a real gamer. I'd like to see more film...maybe against a little stronger competition.

My cousin is a head trainer at a high school in Florida and he was video taping a basketball game or practice when Scott came up to him to comment on his PLAC sign in the training room. Scott could tell my cousin was excited to meet him and told him that ND is clear by far. My cousin told me via a Facebook message he know I'm a huge recruiting nut. I thought II share with everyone else

From the above linked article:

OVERALL

Scott brings several pieces to the forefront that will make him an outstanding receiver on the next level – he’s fast, can catch, runs good routes, and plays tough. He gets yards after the catch and will fight for extra turf even with defenders hanging all over him. He can run the seam from the slot or be a factor in the screen game. Notre Dame can use him as a slot receiver or in a number of other ways within the offense much they used Theo Riddick in recent years. He can bolster special teams as a return man as well. He has tremendous knowledge of the game and will be an asset to whatever team signs him next year.

GRADES

Size: 75 (perfect size for a slot)

Strength: 80 (strong legs, plays bigger than he is due to strength)
Speed: 85 (not sure of the exact 40 time, but he moves well enough to compete at a high level)
Athletic Skills: 80 (cuts hard and fast, runs with purpose, elusive when he needs to be)
Technique: 85 (runs great routes)

Versatility: 90 (plays all over the field in every facet of the game)
Upside: 4.0 (may play early depending on system)
Overall Grade: 4.0

GRADE KEY

90-100 – Elite/Exceptional: Skill set is rare and gives prospect ability to dominate
80-89 – Very Good/Outstanding: Skill set is a significant strength
70-79 – Average: Skill set is solid, not a significant weakness
60-69 – Below Average: Skill set is not a strength for this player and could become a liability
50-59 – Very Poor: Prospect does not possess this trait and it is a definite liability

OVERALL/UPSIDE GRADE KEY

5 – Elite: Player is one of the best players at his position nationally, potentially dominant
4 – Very Good/Outstanding: Player is a potential standout and starter, could also play early
3 – Solid: Player is a potential contributor, could eventually start down the road
2 – Below Average: Player does not possess the talent to be a significant contributor
1 – Poor: Let’s be honest, Notre Dame is not going to bring in anyone with a one!

Really want this kid in our offense. Catching screens and take misdirection handoffs could be fun to watch

Getting Cole and Scott in a package would be huge for depth

If he's a package deal with Mason Cole, then I'm behind it 100%. He's a solid mid-4:s: WR.

But on his own merits, I'm not so sure. His size would basically limit him to Z WR, a position at which we already have more talent than available snaps due to all the 2-TE sets we run.

Though Scott and Noil are the only two sub-6' WRs we've offered thus far, so they're obviously special. I must be missing something.

^^^^ I'm pretty much there as well, especially when u take into account his fit forthe university. Kid is a baller. I think this is a kid that Alford is going to focus on like folston. They talk everyday according to Scott.

I disagree completely with the bolded statement. Maybe he would be better out of the slot, but there are plenty of 5'11" receivers that can tear it up on the outside. Would you pass up Golden Tate?

Do you disagree that the staff prefers long physical WRs at the X and W positions that can grow into dominant blockers? I think that's pretty well settled. Look at our roster. That's the type of WR we need.

We have similar and more highly rated WRs on the roster already (who still aren't seeing the field). Obviously, the best WRs play, regardless of physical profile. In a perfect world, Jones would be a Z WR, but he happened to be our best option at the X a couple years ago, and has settled into the position. I don't expect we'll see many such compromises going forward.

AFAIK, we aren't recruiting him as an athlete. That fact, along with his size, gives me the impression he's not bringing a lot of versatility to the table. I'd just prefer to take longer/ stronger or more versatile athletes at WR first, based on our apparent areas of need.

I know thats what the staff prefers, and this is the same discussion that was being had in he Elijah Hood thread.

Frankly you bring in the talented player and let his performance dictate where he plays. You basically made my point with the TJ Jones example. Great slot receivers tend to also be great outside receivers.

Edit: forgot to address blocking
While height helps, I would rather have a short stout receiver run blocking as opposed to a tall skinny one. I would love to bring in 6'3"+(DD) receivers that can run and catch, but they are extremely rare. I would rather bring in a solid 4 star with speed at 5'11" than a project 3 star at 6'4".

No one recruits this way. You don't simply bring in the 20 best players available regardless of position or physical profile.

You basically made my point with the TJ Jones example. Great slot receivers tend to also be great outside receivers.

Hardly. TJ started at the X as a freshman because (1) we had better options at the Z, and (2) a dearth of a talented outside WRs to complement Floyd. He's held onto the position by working hard, but also because we still don't have many good options at outside WR. He's never been a good blocker, which continues to be a drag on our outside running game, and his lack of size and strength prevents him from being a more effective weapon in the redzone.

As has been mentioned previously regarding OL, we're using height a proxy for wingspan, which has a significant impact on one's ability to block well. Our recruits all show up on campus as unfinished products anyway, so it's not like the tall skinny WR is bound to stay that.

And who said anything about passing on Scott for a less talented but bigger WR? If he's the best WR available, we should obviously take him. But he's not close to the staff's physical profile for X/ W WR (or any of our defensive positions), which means he'll pretty much be limited to the slot. If he really is just a Z WR for us, I'd rather shoot for longer (and therefore more versatile) prospects first.
