Harrison Smith is one of the best safeties to ever come out of Notre Dame and was the definition of a playmaker. I have no idea why he doesn't get more credit. He was a bonafide stud for 2 years, was a 1st round draft pick, and has 2 TDs already this year in the NFL as a rookie.

Just to add. His junior year, Kelly's first, when they would let him he had enought picks that he would be number one in picks of all db's and number one in db tackles, too. Remember, it has only been in Kelly's three years that our db's have not been our leading tacklers.

Exactly. It seems like people decided they didn't think Smith was good when he was playing out of position early in his career and never got over it, to the point that he is still vastly underrated and probably underappreciated by our fan base.

Harrison really came on about halfway thru his junior year. His problem prior to that was the coaching staff. He had a monster senior year.

Now that you mention it, we have had a pretty stellar crop of Safeties over the years. I think we definitely have a "Tight-End U" thing going on but you could make an argument for Safety U.

-Zibikowski
-Ndukwa
-Bruton
-Harrison Smith
-Motta

Heck, even Sergio Brown is still kicking around the NFL. He's Zbikowski's back up in Indy.

I don't get why Motta doesn't get more love. Guy is an absolute stud and is the leader of the DBs.....

Pretty similar reason why Harrison is under rated as explained by IrishLax above. He was out of position often early in his career and people still see him as that player even though he is one of the most improved on our squad. I love seeing a ball carrier wrapped up and Motta flying in for the kill shot.

Kind of worries me. I wonder if he is saying that because he is concerned that Max is having secnd thoughts on ND. Wish Max would end this already... Although based on James Onawulu's interview with ISD (he suggested that we will end up with #1 recruiting class, seemingly on inside info) that we should be ok.

Five-star safety Max Redfield says he is "50/50 between #USC and #NotreDame." In-home visits could be crucial. Stay tuned for a full update

Just talked to 5star safety Max Redfield after his basketball game. Said he was 50/50 between #USC and #NotreDame. Decision soon?

You know something that we don't?

Just as a general reminder to everyone in here and in other recruiting threads, recruits and their families are reading these and are on these forums whether as members or lurkers. Any posts that reflect negatively on this community and that fail to respect these kids, their process, and their decision-making will earn a permanent hiatus. Please post prudently.

Damn. Not good IMO...

I think it's good. Think about it. He went to USC, went silent with all arrows pointing at him diggin on USC again. But he didn't recommit.

Now some time has gone by, and he is 50/50. I feel like the USC trip aura is fading. As Hollywood has mentioned, the USC official trip is extremely good. But it's glitz and glamour, it's not Notre Dame. I think Max is a very smart kid, and if there is something that draws him to USC, then fine. But it wont be the glitz and glamour that got them back in the picture. When he looks at all of the factors and weighs it as a life decision, I think he will make the right one. Regardless of which school he chooses.

Or he is just telling a reporter something so they will get out of his face. That is what I would do.

Even if its 100% accurate, 50/50 is no more bad than good by definition.

If I was a high profile recruit being hounded and was down to 2 schools, even if I was 99% / 1% I would still say 50/50 to keep people off my back.
