Cam Newton won the Heisman despite allegations and strong evidence he participated in illegal recruiting.... Not sure why anyone is surprised or upset that the Heisman trust didn't dq manziel for his incident

Glad it's over. Manti can now focus on Bama. Saw a tweet that he hasn't been able to watch any film yet. So proud that he's at ND.

All this talk about the sec, it certainly didn't help Trent Richardson last year.
If Manti had some king of all world stats he would have won it. He has received plenty of awards for what he has done.

Hell, Troy Smith won one AFTER he was found to have taken cash and gifts from boosters....

Damn.

I knew Manti wouldn't win, but I still found myself ticked off.

Manziel had an amazing year. If Golson had his year, we'd be calling for him to win it. If Floyd had a huge year last year, few here would have pointed to his criminal record. I understand that Manziel's stats were pumped up by Sumlin's offense...but, no one thought that offense would work against top competition. It worked.

In the end, I wish Manti had won, but I could have seen a vote either direction.

Damn.

I just wish we could see Manziel have two good seasons in a row before bestowing this honor on him.

Or at least see Manziel have a full season without going to jail for a racist fight.

Is that too much to ask? I think not.

IF Golson had that year, I'd have still have voted Te'o #1. Golson would have cost his team two games.

And, IF ND had two losses, Te'o would not have been in consideration.

kinda agree...probably for different reasons...

I think the kid is a good football player. No secret I thought his season did not justify the award...I also think he'd be better able to internalize the pressuer if he did this for two seasons. The target on him...well, at least he'll know what its like to be ND...

I wander now, how he'll deal with it...I got this feeling he'll play through all the hype because he seems to love playing...and seems so in the moment at game time, he'll be fine...but its possible that trophy turns into a boat anchor of expectations...hope not.

Kid is fun to watch...I got no reason to wish him anything but health, happiness, and success...unless he runs into ND...:)

Good luck Johnny Football...

I literally could give two craps about an individual award.
I'm tired of people like espn making millions of dollars off of a trophy, like I literally don't understand why this even has to be televised. But then again, I pretty much hate all money making sports exploits. Thus my hate for professional sports and especially espn.

TLDR all of it, so if it were said before I apologize. As much as I wanted Te'o to win, at least we won't have the heisman curse on us going into the game (yes I'm a little superstitous).

Hey Heisman Trust...if you continue with your trend of the best player with the best stats who had a "Heisman moment" then Jailtime Johnny absolutely deserves the award, but I think you should change what your statement says, because it hasn't lived up to it in over a decade. It's turned into a popularity contest supported by $@%!$@%! statistics coupled with some arbitrary "moment" to include a campaign of media hype/publicity.

I'm drunk, so **** all of your couches.

I also agree though, the Heisman trust needs to change their statement. If you go by that, then it's obviously Manti. I just hate that they give so many votes to people who are really undeserving a vote.

The Heisman is a fraternity? If you were in a fraternity, would you allow people that have never been in or never will be in your frat, vote for someone to be in it? Let alone be 90% of the vote?

The answer is no. With that being said JF won the Heisman and rightfully so.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS!!!!!! but not Heismans??

"I'm relieved that it's over, I'm excited I get the chance to prepare for 'Bama," Manti Te'o said. "I'm telling you guys — Heisman Trophy or national championship, I'll take a national championship 100 times out of 100."

GO IRISH!!

You know what?

I am with Manti, congratulations to Johnny Manzel, he deserved it.

Now let's look at what follows.

Have you ever heard the kind of burning motivation Manti expressed? Do you have any idea how that is going to translate into his actions and by extension the actions of his brothers?

Clearly no one has stopped them yet. Everyone has fallen far short. The only close calls were when they almost stopped themselves.

To the BAMA troll. Did you blood run cold when you watched the post Heisman interview? I knew Nick Saban when he was the head coach at the University of Toledo, and I have to agree with the sentiment that he is tough when he has time to prepare. But did you see Manti explain how he usually has 3 days to watch film and this time he is going to have three weeks? His statement had the deadly intent of an assassin's knife. In three days that study gave him the information he needed to destroy Denard Robinson's, game and Landry Jones' game. It allowed him to take apart MSU, Miami, and SC.

I think that ND's defense in particular is going to be whipped into a frenzy, and I think they are going to breathe Bama's tendencies. And this is ironic. Because we will see, if those that are prepared will have the skill level to at least play southern high school football, or better than seventh place football in the SEC.

Finally, where does Johnny go? The best test of Manzel's award will be the TA&M results of their bowl game and the rest of Manzel's SEC career. (Please note I didn't say college career.)

ND may make a lot of money, but unlike ESPN they provide the student athletes with a college degree, provided the player earns it. So to an extent ND doesn't "exploit" their players the way the SEC does.

Just a different way to look at it.

Believe me, I know university's make a lot of money too. But some of that does get redirect back into the university's budget. Regardless, this increasing rate of money being brought into the sporting world is simply not sustainable. One day the sporting bubble is gonna take a set back imo.
Sports "reporters" and "televisors" are starting to lose their focus. Everything is turning into this weird reality show with phoney acting facades opposed to actual reporting. Espn especially seems like a glorified tmz these days.

Overall, the over monetization of sports will cause it to become more and more of a soap opera.

I'm still waiting on the day where espn starts to hire actors instead of people with journalism backgrounds, im sure it's coming soon..

Don't work so hard.

I think now that everyone has edified us on their own position we can agree that Our Lady's University has about as pure of motives as you can expect in this imperfect world, to be distinguished from that parasitic vermin that provide nothing of use but a paycheck for stretched-out old embittered a$shole's who masquerade as sportscasters.

Though Kansas State QB Collin Klein was invited to New York as a Heisman finalist, he is not expected to receive a Senior Bowl invite.

I wasn't trying to be a jerk either. Sorry if I came across that way, I'm just aggravated with SEC fans. I was watching the Heisman presentation last night and when Manziel was announced the winner (I was hopeful good would win out, but wasn't expecting Teo to win) bama fans cheered and chanted for a brief moment S-E-C. They also had no idea he was arrested and presented a fake i.d. to the cops. <end of rant>
