HAHAHAHAHA Anyone else see Bob Diaco on the commitments board, homepage?
Well.... I am going to make several assumptions that may not be unreasonable: 1). Danny Mattingly is a fine young man, otherwise our staff would not have been interested in him in the first place; it is unlikely that he has suddenly become some undesirable person;
2). Danny Mattingly is an intelligent young man coming from a family who has high standards of excellence; with such qualities and background he would have flourished as a Notre Dame student and Man;
3). Danny Mattingly is something like 18. He is staring into a very foggy future and hoping for guidance. His heart tells him that his life may be easier closer to family, and his athletic career might be more successful playing a position which he has decided that he enjoys more.
So, Danny looks elsewhere. That's fine, young man. I am going to bet that you and the staff have been very up front with each other for some time, and this formal parting of the ways will hurt neither yourself nor Notre Dame recruiting.
So Godspeed and have a great life.
3 days late to the party
Sorry, but the writing was on the wall for Mattingly. With the talent that we have coming in at the LB position it would be hard for him to crack the top 2 at any point in his career.
Maybe had I gotten an invitation...
Yo Danny -
You may be overwhelmed at this point with trying to make your decision on which college to go to. I feel for and honor you as this is a huge decision even without the added factor of you wanting to play fooball. Let me address you just from the education standpoint. Remember, it will be very dificult to make it to playing at the pro football level and even if you do, you could get i...njured and still have to fall back on an education to be eligible for a good job and make a living after college.As the only uncle you have that has an engineering degree (Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from Purdue University), I went through the same decision (which college should I go to)agony when I was a senior in high school also. The factors I see for you would be potential class size and recognition and prestige of the degree of the college you graduate from. Any public college (any PAC-10 school with the exception of Stanford, Big 10 schools with the exception of Nortwestern, etc) are going to have very large class sizes. The professors at public colleges will not care that you are a football player and NOT give you extra attention or academic help. Purdue is a public college and I was in class with a couple of football and b-ball players and I saw that they were not treated any different nor given extra help if they struggled. At a private college (Notre Dame, Stanford, Northwestern to name a few examples), they will give you help (special tutoring if you start to lag behind in classwork) BECAUSE you are a football player (but not on your tests and homework - you still have to do the work) and they know that you will have a lot on your plate because of you playing sports. Private college adminstrators want student athletes to have special treatment becae they know the the sports programs, especially football are very highly visible to the public and successful student athletes bring even more prestige to the college.
A private school education from Notre Dame or Stanford is also very prestigious once you are out in the job hunting market because there are alumni (people who have graduated from College X) that will hire you because you attended the same school they did. They might even favor you more because you played sports for that school. There are Notre Dame alumni around the world and at very high ranking positions in very successful corporations, businesses and consulting engineering companies.Distance from home, family members, and friends of the college being considered will be another factor. You'll make more friends at college. I had the funnest years of my life at college. A lot of your current Spokane friends will not be going to the same college you would go to and not be around Spokane anymore to hang out with. If you are thinking of attending any school out of the State of Washington, that is a long way from home any way you look at it.
If you have an offer from a private college, please consider it over public schools just from an education standpoint. The likelihood of your getting the degree you orginally enter the college for is much much greater if you go to a private college no matter how far from home that college is.Give me a call if I can help any more 541 591 1582 or email me at pattycoen@msn.com
I am praying for you to make a good decision that you will be happy with for more that just the years you go to college.
Unce Stan
excellent message from his Uncle!!
I am having a hard time believing this is real. The part in bold above is untrue. I had classes with a few football players at Purdue and know first hand from working on group projects with them at their own study lounge in the football pactice facility that they have plenty of resources available to them for academic help. I am not saying that the overall premise of the above post isn't valid, it just seems fake to me. For example, if your uncle wanted you to contact him for advice, would he need to list out his phone number and email address on your FB wall for all to see as if you didin't know how to contact him?
his uncle had posted stuff before so he is def his uncle..i couldn't tell you my uncle's number or email address....but regardless i was just posting it for the push of what seem to be ND and not stay out west..
Did anyone explain to him that we graduate 100 of our African American athletes?
What do we do with the rest?
