Just saw on 247's heat ratings that ND is the highest. If he gave his verbal would the staff accept it?

imo that rb as a slot role is overrated and slowly disappearing....we don't use any of our rb's as a slot and i think that's why they have been so successful this year...just let those guys do what they do best lining up in the backfield and let guys with toma and neal's skill set play the slot.

Wood was never a pseudo-slot guy. Atkinson was recruited to run deep routes as a WR, not be in the slot.

It'll all depend on skill sets. Guys like Carlisle and Riddick can do it.

Riddick has done this alot this year. We have had good success with it on rollouts on boots.

Have you not noticed how much we throw to Riddick? Where ever he's lined up when the ball gets snapped, he's more than a "RB who can catch," he's a hybrid RB/slot. More like him coming, I'd think.

who accepts a commit when there is no coaching staff in place? the athletic director? Good for him anyways, Cal is a decent school and the facilities are all new and supposedly very impressive, just a shame the end product on the field right now is not. Good luck Khalfani!

It's starting to get late in the recruiting cycle and unless your a can't miss prospect there is no guarantee anyone will hold a spot for you. Kid might have just felt the need to commit to a school at this point to ensure he has something. As noted, Cal is a good school, congrats to him and I hope he whoops up on USC in the next 4 years!!

Just did a google and Nix's commitment was accepted by Tony Alford who was a holdover from the CW regime.

Similar thing going on with Khalfani:

Greg Biggins ‏@GregBiggins
" #Cal is going to keep Ron Gould, the RB coach who has been there for 16 years so I wasn't worried about the head coach," Khalfani Muhammad

IMO, he's reserving a spot ... but he's all Irish if he gets a commitable offer from us. Just what it feels like to me.

EDIT: ... but I could be wrong. He sounds pretty solid to Cal in this Scout article, which I was able to read even though I'm not a Scout subscriber (but then I clicked away from it, and when I tried to click back I could no longer read it without subscribing and logging in ... how does that work?):

Scout.com: Muhammad commits to Cal

He loves the RB coach, who did an in-home and assured him that he would be staying on; he wanted to stay in Cali, but still feel like he was getting away from home (grew up in SoCal, Cal is in the Bay Area); he wants to run track and Cal is cool with that; he's visited a lot of places and feels like Cal is a great fit, even aside from football.

BearTerritory.net - Bears snag four-star tailback

"I know Ron Gould -- who I was just talking with -- he's going to stick around," Muhammad said of the veteran Cal running backs coach, who paid an in-home visit to the Muhammad household on Tuesday night, and will be retained through the transition from former skipper Jeff Tedford to whoever the new head coach will be. "He's been there for 16 years. I have a good relationship with him. I thought it would be the best fit for me. I was born in California, raised in California, I want to play football in California, and I want to play football for coach G -- one of the best coaches in California, for the California Golden Bears."

"Representing where I'm from, Cal's even in my name [Khal]," laughed Muhammad. "That's my choice. I'm committed to it and I'm looking forward to the future."

Seems like a nice kid.

Just ran some BLAZING state championship track times in California. 10.33 100m and 20.86 200m. Wow.

Can't be unhappy with Folston/Bryant... but you have to think this kid is a total sleeper. Small, but fast + quick. Atkinson's best is a 10.36 for reference and we all know what kind of wheels he has.

Totally agree, lax. This kid is a sleeper. Tough to question the staff with recruits but I would have made room for him. Worst case scenario, he's a our change of pace back and folston plays D. Time will tell.

I agree this kid was under the radar and will prolly end up being something special. With that said we are getting difference makers and we will be happy with who we got. Time will play out and Bryant, Folston, McDaniel, and Atkinson won't be thinking that.

I've always been on his bandwagon. Kid is going to tear it up at Cal.
