Had the hit of the game...if the guy would've caught it, he would have been separated from it...and he stayed down a minute or two

Definitely had the presence of mind to drive his shoulder and not use his helmet. If he had even partially used his helmet the flag would have probably come out.

Kid as played pretty well this year besides this game. Idk if his tackling was affected by the cast or not.

His tackling has been so-so all season.

Luckily, we have three more years of this kid with the staff that turned Harrison Smith into a first rounder and Zeke Motta into a Thorpe candidate.

I think tackling with that thing in the open field would be a pain in the ***. Good tacklers grab cloth every time they wrap up. Kinda hard to do that when you can't grab anything with one of your hands.

I know constructive criticism of players is practically illegal around here, but Farley is clearly the weak link the in defense. He terrifies me, and not in a "he might kill that guy with this hitting" kind of way.

well they cant all be all-americans! Considering hes a converted WR and a freshman and playing with a broken hand and has limited experience and is replacing the most experienced DB on the roster...i think hes doing ok :)

Hmmm... Maybe you are getting confused about the meaning of "constructive criticism." Saying you are "terrified" of a player because they are "clearly the weak link" is not, in fact, constructive.

As far as weak link, that is true in the sense that he is the "weakest" starter on arguably the best defense in the country. I would grant that Teo, Tuitt, Nix, Jackson, Prince, KLM, Motta, Spond, Fox, and even Russell are all arguably better at their position. So we might have to cover for Farley and Russell a little. How has that gone? Let's look at the points we have given up in games where Farley took over for Slaughter:

MSU- 3 (0 passing TDs)
Michigan 6 (0 passing TDs, he had an interception)
Miami- 3 (0 passing TDs, although we were lucky that this was not 1!)
Stanford- 13 (1 passing TD)
BYU- 14 (2 passing TDs)
OK- 13 (1 passing TD against some of the best players in the country)
Pitt- 26 (1 passing TD, he had just broken his arm)
BC- 6 (0 passing TDs)
Wake- 0 (0 passing TDs)

There is nothing terrifying about the production of this defense with Farley as its "weak link." We gave up passing 3 TDs over the first two games with Slaughter against Navy and Purdue. That's an average of 1.5 TDs/g. We gave up 5 more over the next 10 games, for an average of .5 TD/g. This is just not terrifying.

The only thing he's noticably bad at is laying sure-hits. But even then, I could care less for big hits if you're making the tackle.

Constructive criticism of players isn't illegal here. Calling players "terrible" and personally attacking them is. We all have to remember that they are our players. They play for our team. We should be supportive of them.

Outside of the missed tackle on Ray Graham when else did you see him not laying "sure-hits?" Just curious because that is the only one I can recall. I think Keivarae needs more work on his tackling than Mathias.

I think he got trucked one or twice against Wake too. He's had a great year but its obvious he's a bit hesitant still.

He's a redshirt freshman playing his first year at safety. I'd say he's done pretty damn well.

They're not all missed tackles where he gets straight run-over, but he's had probably a dozen or so bumpy-poos I've noticed during the season. Probably comes from being a soccer player so long. Doesn't lean-forward enough to prepare for contact.

+1. Farley and Russell both need work but they are inexperienced players and they'll come around. Both have made some big plays for us this year. Farley was great against Stanford. Russell saved two TDs by tracking down a streaking Ray Graham.

That is my recollection as well, but I was not paying close attention.
