I know we cant find out what coaches voted for, but I specifically was interested in how many coaches (not which coaches) voted us #2, how many voted us #3, how many voted us #4, how many voted us #5, and how many voted us #6?

If anyone has that info and could share that would be great.

Don't know how many coaches voted us #2 or #3. I did hear that Lane Kiffin said he voted us #1, when his ballot actually showed #25

Good question. I would love to see the answer too.

While I believe it, I would love a source on this to pass around to friends before the USC game.

ND received 1346 points in the most recent coaches poll. Of the 59 voters, 1 (Kelly) voted us number 1. So the other 58 voters accounted for 1321 points (1346-25). After dividing that number by 58 to find the avg. points from the other 58 coaches you get 22.776 (25 is all 1st, 24, all 2nd, 23 all 3rd). Therefor some coaches voted us lower than 3rd.

To find how many coaches voted us worse than 3rd (assuming everyone voted us 1 (BK), 3 or 4 (which is not totally true as we probably got some 2nd and 5th place votes. I assume they cancel each other out) . Subtract 22 from 22.776 and multiply by 58- this gives you the number of voters who voted us 3rd (or those who voted us 2nd with an equal number who voted us 4th). Gives 45 meaning coaches voted us number 4 (This is assuming nobody voted us lower than 4, but also assuming nobody voted us number 2; both of which are probably inaccurate, though I think they could have an equalizing effect in the analysis.)

This is completely ridiculous. Getting 13 more points would give us a .921 in the USA today. This would increase our BCS total by .003 which isn't a whole lot, but considering the .01 difference between us and Oregon is significant.

Hopefully none of this matters because someone in the top 2 loses.

I thought the ballots were anonymous until the last one?

I know that this is sarcasm because of the earlier controversy with kiffins preseason vote but what I want confirmation on is that Kiffin gave up his vote for the rest of the season right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he gave up his voting rights for the season because of the earlier fiasco (One of many for Kiffy this year). So yes, my earlier post was sarcasm

It's not a question of it being anonymous. i don't care right now what specific coaches ballots are. I want a frequency distribution of where our 1346 points came from. They provide us with how many coaches voted each team #1, so why can't they also provide how many 2nd place votes, 3rd place votes, etc.

# of Coaches who Voted Us in the Following Rank:
1=1
2=??
3=??
4=??
5=??
6=??

Because I know coaches voted us 4th, 5th, and 6th and I want to know how many. This can prove the point that we don't have to get first and second place votes in the rankings to jump Kansas State. In fact, all we may need is Kelly to keep voting us #1, maybe a few coaches voting us #2, and the rest voting us #3.

The teams we may need to root to lose may not be Oregon and Kansas State. It may be teams like Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, Florida, LSU, Clemson, etc.

I've rooted for them to lose for decades. It's got nothing to do with polls just basic ethics or more accurately the lack of them.

Frequency distribution still allows shenanigans. Put a little Luther in the coaches poll. Let them nail their convictions to the door. Make the votes public - all the votes. Stop the hypocrisy.

AP Ballots are public. Too bad Harris and Coaches Poll aren't.

Link to AP Ballots

Who the hell are Mitch Vingle and Tom Murphy? Mitch writes for a West Virginia paper and put OSU ahead of us. Tom's from an Arkansas paper and put Alabama ahead of us. Apparantely a loss only drops you TWO spots in his book.

FSU, LSU, Florida, and Clemson are out of it, unless all 3 undefeated teams lose.

Belive he is saying because some coaches have those teams ahead of ND in their poll... if they lose it bumps us up in the overall rankings... I think that's what he's getting at.

This is a good point that I haven't really thought about. If Georgia, Florida, or LSU lose, it obviously forces voters to reallocate their votes. Problem is I don't think they go ND's way. Also, I don't see Georgia losing until SEC championship, and it may be settled by then (they play Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech). LSU has Ole Miss & Arkansas, and Florida has nobody until FSU. It could all be figured out by then. And I don't see Bama losing.
