Stanford's Chances of Winning Out

Let's say, hypoethically, Stanford gets the ball first and takes a 7 minute drive for a TD, then forces a turnover, and then takes another 7 minute drive for a TD. With an early lead and pounding the rock... Stanford has a good shot to win. They cannot claw their way out of a hole if they get down early.

Vegas gives them a very small chance to win... I give them about double the chance Vegas is giving them, let's say 20%. I think they just need to stick to a ball control gameplan and force a couple turnovers/get a couple stops.

LET'S GO CARDINAL!

Kevin Hogan started in place of Nunes against Or St and hit a team season high 75% of his passes. Nunes best 60%, 3-5, was against Colorado. Or St Pass Defense is ranked 22nd and ORE's 18th. But the Ducks DL is decimated AND the secondary has replacement woes.

Hogan was a step up over Nunes in the passing game BUT he's also a dual threat QB. He ran for 48 Yds against the Beavs with two, 20 yard runs. He was a HS option QB that complements Taylor's running game. Hogan adds two threats while Nunes hasn't shown one.

Stanford has got to start fast in both halves and keep pounding the rock thereafter.
Oregon runs alot of scripted plays in the first half to gauge the defense they are facing before making the adjustments in the seconds half..stanford has got to be diverse and counter punch all the way. Good luck to them Trees :p

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but they are saying on ESPN that Oregon plans on playing DeAnthony Thomas at CORNER this week.

That Ducks defense is a mess. If this happens, I hope Stanford just pounds the ball on his side of the field.

They still have UCLA.

They're legit this year.

Am I correct in understanding that, if Stanford beats UCLA this weekend, they'll win the Pac-12 North. And then have to play UCLA again the following week for the Pac-12 title?

I understand the money they generate, but mostly these conference championship games are ridiculous.

That's exactly how it is going to go. So stupid...

Well lets hope they whoop UCLA's arse twice!

nah to hell with that. I am glad they beat oregon and all but a quality Stanford team is huge recruiting competition for us given that we target similar recruits. Do not want them in another BCS game. not that who we root for has any effect on the outcome.

Conference championships are simply in place to promote your conferences power team. Its another game where you can say that you faced off the best 2 teams in your conference and state that this one is clearly better than that one.

The conference championships should not count towards final voting nor bowl placement. Take the curious case of MichiganSt last year. Imagine beating Michigan, play in your conference championship and losing. Then be relegated to whatever lower bowl they ended up in. While Michigan did absolutely nothing and got a BCS nod.

Or imagine this hypothetical situation where the best team in the conference loses their division so they don't have to play in the conference championship game. Then they can safely make it to the National Championship Game to play whoever wins the conference championship, even though they didn't earn the rights to play in their conference championship. Just a hypothetical of course.

Good call.

I would like to withdraw my previous position.

Same thing is going to happen to Georgia this year, if they lose the SEC Championship game, UF will get a BCS bowl bid over them,

I know UGA had that ugly head to head win over UF and normally that kind of thing holds a lot of sway with me but UF should go to a BCS bowl game over UGA. If UF beats FSU they will hold 4 wins over top 11 opponents. Their schedule is legit and their resume is impressive. UGA's only quality win is against Florida, they lost by 4 touchdowns to SCAR, and the rest of their schedule is a bad joke.

It has happened THREE TIMES in the BCS era, not just last year. Twice with w/ the BIG12, actually.

In both cases the B12 "champion" got smoked by an "inferior" opponent--#15 Colorado CRUSHED #1 Nebraska in 2001, as Chris Brown ran for 6 TDs in the 62-36 win; and by #1 OU lost by 28 to #15 KSU in the 2003 B12 CCG (35-7). Those two instances are far more egregious than the 3 point loss that Bama had last year. Not that the Tide deserved a second shot, much like Florida did not deserve their second shot at FSU in 1996.

#1 Nebraska at #15 Colorado 2001 - YouTube

2003 Big 12 Football Championship Game Recap - YouTube

In both cases, the B12 went on to lose the National Title game, even though there were equally deserving teams that got left out (11-1 Oregon with Joey Harrington was #2); while in 2003, #3 USC (11-1) got shafted--which is ironically delicious (but they still deserved a shot against 2-loss LSU in the Sugar Bowl, instead of the Sooners), which of course led to the split national title that year.

Those are my top 3 reasons the BCS needs to go away.

P.S.--For as much a people on here say that Oregon has no tradition, that could be partly the BCS fault. TWICE they were shut out of the NCG by the BCS, 2001 and last year, with a loss to Auburn by 3 points (2010 BCS CG) in between. Just saying, it is kinda ironic.
