Still not sure what the article said, but Scout has moved him to a Soft Verbal status.

Well we are now actively recruiting people to replace him (renewed contact with Ebenzer Ogundeko tonight) so the staff considers him a soft verbal at best.

Could be a power play by the staff as well (calling Danny's "bluff"). Show him that if he continues to be on the fence he can be easily replaced by another recruit in the class. I'd much rather have Danny be a part of this class, but at some point soon he needs to be all in or out.

AQM is a better version of ebenezer and Danny brings versatility, so I agree with having mattingly above ebenezer. With that said he definitely needs to make up his mind. I really like this move by the staff.

With the other LB's in this class there is not a big need for Mattingly in this class. Ogundeko would be a better fit if he can play DE in a 3-4.

After last year I like the fact the staff is not waiting around. If there are other kids out there go get them

Question is: Do you drop Danny if someone else wants in, If Danny is still on the fence?

^^^ mattingly offers much more flexibility and at this point the staff clearly isn't as worried about DE depth as some on here are. To fill out the class It seems either they want elite at a specific position or kids they can be flexible with.

^ Especially with the mass amounts of true DE/DL talent in the '14 class that is expressing a lot of interest.

If Danny wants to be Irish, he will be.

Shows confidence is our staff if the stance is that strong about one recruit, but could it be a hinderance if said recruit knows staff is holding a spot for them?

That doesn't mean we are holding a spot. I am quite sure that the staff will make sure they have clarification on what Danny is doing sooner rather than later. But if he wants to be Irish, the spot is obviously there. They are not going to drop him if he wants to be a Domer - it will be his choice to jeopardize or end it.

Good, i just don't really care for a staff "holding spots"... We do not go the JUCO route or grey shirt or use any other tactic some southern schools do. So Par for Course as far as Depth is the way i'd like to be.

My understanding, based on what Sapp has been saying, is that if our commits take OVs elsewhere, we are no longer holding a spot for them.

So if Danny goes through with his plan to visit Oregon this weekend, and someone who we like better than Danny wants to commit, we will take that kid and drop Danny.

The question is which of our current big skill targets, if any, we like better than Danny.

I tend to agree with Ironman that there is no one currently on the horizon who can take Danny's spot away from him. But who knows. I've also heard that Kelly is personally involved in Deon Hollins' recruitment, so that tells me that he wants Hollins bad, maybe bad enough to take him over Danny if Hollins were to flip. Who knows at this point.
