True I believe. I was watching another game this year and someone got ejected. They were talking about him having to miss time the next game to serve a full game I think.

I agree completely. You can't sit there and let an opponent get a cheapshot in on Springman like that. We'll be fine against Wake. This only helps team chemistry.

Hate to start a thread on this but one foot down is saying he will have to sit out the first half versus's Wake Forest per rule NCAA Rule 9, section 5
Notre Dame vs. BC: Feathers in the Cap and Black Eyes - One Foot Down

Was Nix charged by the ref with Fighting or a Personal Foul?

Under NCAA Rule 9, Section 5 Disqualification for Fighting in the second half of a game does result in Disqualification for the first half of the following game. However, I don't recall that Nix and the BC player were DQ'd for Fighting. I do recall a Personal Foul for Roughing the Passer, and then I though two more Personal Foul calls. Again the Ref may have mentioned Fighting but I don't recall that specifically. I checked the Official Play by Play at UND.com and they mention three Personal Fouls but don't note the nature of Roughing the Passer call nor of the other two Personal Fouls.

If he was tossed for Fighting that he's out for the first half of the WF game. Kelly should address it at his PC.

Was hoping I'd see your moniker in this thread. I do not recall the ref specifying what the two personal fouls were for after the initial roughing the passer call. Guess we will have to wait for a definitive answer in Coach's presser, but as I understand it now, I could not imagine they were ejected simply for a personal foul. I would imagine it will have to carry the fighting label, (or do the officials have that much discretion in assessing a personal foul penalty? )

The ref can DQ players for other things such as Flagrant Fouls. Personally Nix and the other guy shoved people around. I don't recall punches being thrown or connected which is the usual reason for a Fighting penalty. There were a couple of other incidents in the 4th Q and I suspect the ref was puting both teams on notice along the lines of, "I've had enought, these two are being made examples. Anyone else want to test me?"

Under that condition it goes to the conference office for determination of any further penalty (next half on the schedule). So the ACC could decide the BC guy's fate if any. I don't know where they punt decisions on Independent players.

This is what I found on a quick google search:

Rule 9 Section 6 Article 1 governs Player Ejections from flagrant fouls: When a player is disqualified from the game due to a flagrant personal foul, that team’s conference shall automatically initiate a video review for possible additional sanctions prior to the next scheduled game.

Based on this, it's up to ND whether to suspend Nix for any additional time during the Wake game.

Maybe the team will come out and play hard for Nix and the Seniors at home. I really don't want another nail biter on Senior day to finish out the home games.

Both ejections were total crap. No one usually gets ejected from a game unless punches or kicks are involved or an official ends up getting pushed around.

There was 3 flags on the play the way the ref announced it. The ref said that the first was roughing the passer. Then he Said that Nix and the other player were disqualified for the rest of the game. He just said personal foul never mentioned the word fighting.

Not a smart play by Nix at all. He's got to think of the bigger picture. BC was a bunch of punks at times, but Springmann clearly had a very late hit and BC had a reason to be upset. Nix could have stood up for his team in other ways instead of perhaps costing himself playing in the Wake Forest game. For those that think we will be okay without Nix because it's "just Wake Forest", go back and watch how we did without Nix in the game against Pitt.

As great as Te'o and Tuitt have been this year, Nix is the key to our defense. He's our defensive MVP this year.

I think the ejections were simply because the game was over and the refs didn't want those two guys on the field together again. Trying to stop a fight before it happens. I don't think a suspension will happen for either.

Thought the refs did a poor job officiating this game...and the review of the BC fumble that Ishaq gobbled up had to be a fumble.

I agree. I don't think anyone would have been ejected had the same thing happened earlier in the game. There was a minute left in the game and clearly the outcome had been decided at that point, so they simply got rid of the combatants. I didn't see any punches thrown, so I'll be surprised by any suspension.

So ridiculous. Nothing happened! Just some shoving that is often not even penalized... and they get an ejection? Unreal.

I think onefootdown blew this one. I went back to the game and they clearly say that they are ejected for the remainder of the game for a "flagrant foul". The announcers then go on to say that both players need to chill, because the ncaa can go back to the video and suspend them further if they continue.

With Kelly not mentioning a suspension and for frankly, it not being an actual fight (no punches thrown), I highly doubt that the ncaa is going to garnish further penalties. This type of thing happens every week in the SEC and it rarely if ever garnishes further penalties.

I completely disagree. Is a Nix a cog that makes the machine purr like a kitten? Yes.

But to say he's the defensive MVP is a bit of exaggeration. Our record is far worse without #5 than #9 IMO. I digress, let's agree we need both to continue this great run.

Nix had some issues last week too. I get that he was defending his teammate, but if I remember correctly, he pushed around a different player from the one who took a shot at Springman. He needs to be smarter. At the end of the day, if he sits a half for WF, it will just make him better for it and hopefully smarter going forward.

BC was getting chippy from the start. I figured someone would have retaliated before then. I wasn't surprised at all when it happened and to be honest, I hate to lose Nix for a half but was sort happy he pushed back.
