As Whiskey noted finding a suitable DT will be mission number one.

Do we take one QB every recruiting class from now on

Yes. Kelly feels the position is too important to not take the best available QB every year, and I think he's right. But for the first time in several years, we'll actually need 1 QB to get back to ideal depth (4/4) since Rees and (likely) Hendrix are gone after next season.

Here's the current depth chart. We need:

1 QB
0 RB/ Z WR
3 X/W WR
1 TE
3-4 OL
5 DL (pray to God the next Big Lou is out there somewhere)
2-3 ILB
1 CB
1 S
1 Specialist

So we'd need at least 18 new 2014 recruits to reach ideal depth across the board. I'd project 4 5Ys at this point, which would leave us 17 spots for 2014 recruits. We're in good shape, gentlemen.

Here's hoping that we build the foundation of the '14 class on the D-line, in the same way that the O-line was the foundation of the '13 class.

Agree completely,

Games are won in the trenches, and look no further than the stellar front 7 that ND has this season as proof

Agree. Agree Agree Agree.

I think its critical to get another NT. Maybe 2. In my mind NT and QB we should be taking every year... the drop off in our defensive play when Lou Nix comes off the field is significant. I dont think the importance of good tackle play can be overstated, IMO NT is the most important position on D.

Agree 100% , actually i think thats what i was trying to say, sometimes i am not good with my words but i know what i want to say. Sorry

Your words are fine, it's the lack of capitalization that is painful.

So do average minds ;).

What are you trying to say here

And RhodeIrish

I agree we are in good shape with Folston and he is going to take his time which is why i leave him off do we have room. That is where Mattingly may come in.

Can someone help me how do you make two comments on two different quotes in one post

He saw you were from Findlay and just assumed ;)

Go Oilers.

I posted this in Willis' thread but thought it might fit better here:

What are everyone's thoughts if Willis wants to go ND, is there even a spot for him? Will he get that Mack "reserved" spot, or will the class close with AQM/Robinson or maybe just AQM?

EDIT: I forgot about the possibility of Redfield, so I guess throw that wrench in there too.

I think we pass. We're still in good shape with Alexander, Redfield, AQM.

Willis is a five-star. I think we'd take the first to commit of Redfield and Willis.

Only way I see us passing on Willis is if the staff a) thinks there is no chance Redfield will be swayed by these other visits he is taking and b) likes him significantly better than Willis--which I don't think they do unless Willis has more serious character issues than I'm aware of. Certainly as a player and prospect he is as good or better than Redfield.

If Nichols is taking a medical:
  • AQM is a given (silent);
  • First to commit of Redfield, Alexander or Willis;
  • First to commit of Robinson or Treadwell.

Though the rumors surrounding Willis are something to consider. It's possible that ours is one of the many coaching staffs to have allegedly backed off him.

Whiskey do you think they would take Redfield and Alexander if they both wanted to commit prior to either Robinson or Treadwell? I think they would have to say yes to both (I'd probably pass on Willis if Red or Al already in the bag).

It seems natural selection is occuring. There are four kids out there whom ND loves, who love ND, and who would be great fits on this team: AQM, MR, DR, and TF.

While I bet we would take one of the other guys if he suddenly saw the light, it seems like that is not going to be an issue since there is already so much momentum with 4 kids whom we want badly.

While it would be great to have a shut-down corner, I am fine with what we currently have.

I like both Folston and Robinson, and would like top sign both. If we can't, I guess I'd take Folston if Wood leaves, and Robinson if he stays. The reality is, though, this is the time of the year when you can't risk saying no to the first comer.

This seems like a good approach, though I'd probably try to give Redfield a gentle push to commit before I took Willis (Alexander looks like he's going to be awhile yet). And if we really only have two slots left, a DB is higher priority than a WR.
But if we lose Nichols, or Mattingly, or someone else - and we always lose someone somehow - Robinson would be great to have.

only change i'd make to whiskey's list is to wait on redfield and take the first of LT, MA, and DR

But then you could end up with both Redfield and Alexander. I wouldn't like to take 5 DBs in this class when we have other needs. I'd keep Whiskey's list the way it is.

I'd take them both with the intent of MR playing WR. His WR highlights are solid.
