422 total yards. 5 passing TDs. 1 rushing TD. Not a bad Friday night Malik, not too bad.

Highlight of night: #NotreDame '13 QB commit Malik Zaire throwing for 251yds and 5 TDs plus 171yds rushing and 1 TD.

That is simply mind boggling.

although alter plays in one of the lower divisions in ohio high school football, they play a very brutal schedule and perhaps have it easier in the playoffs than they do in the regular season....with that said fairmont was said to supposedly having a solid Division 1 team going into this year. very solid stats against a team that's not bad

He had five TD's on last friday. Almost 400 yards total and he was pulled after the second series of the 3rd quarter. He had td runs of 78 and 61 yards in the first quarter. This kid is a beast.

Had plans to see him play at McNicholas until I found out I would be in Chicago for the Miami game. May make an effort to see an Alter home game now.

Why was he pulled? Was it garbage time by then?

Maliks father in response to the question "what do you think of Irish season so far?"

His Answer "Kick *** I am excited about how things are shaping up! There's talk of a national championship game or a BCS bowl game. I know malik is very very excited about joining the team in January he believes he will have a good shot for next season I told him to work hard an be patience his time will come."

Win and recruiting takes care of itself......

And we thought there was QB controversy right now... Everett, Gunner, Malik, Tommy and Hendrix (if he doesn't transfer) all competing... The next few years are going to be insane

I dont think he sees the field next year. IMO Kelly will do the same thing that he has done with Golson and Kiel give em a year to run the scout team and get acclimated to NDs system. The competition will be between Everett and Kiel next season with Tommy doing his bullpen role. 2014 is when things will get really crazy with the QB situation.

Ugh. I'm so tired of this QB controversy talk. The staff is going to recruit a high caliber QB every year. Sometimes they turn out, sometimes they don't, sometimes they transfer, sometimes they switch positions, sometimes they start, sometimes they sit. It's going to happen every year.

Why don't we talk about the DB controversy or the WR controversy or the RB controversy?

The staff has proven that they can and will recruit top athletes. Like NDinFL said, this is a great thing because it creates a very competitive atmosphere and makes everyone better. The ones who stand out each week and get it done, will play on Saturdays. Again, sometimes they turn out, sometimes they don't...but you never stop recruiting.

I completely agree. So does anyone believe that Hendrix transfers next season?

Barring something ginormous the last couple of weeks this year, I'd say Andrew's time truly competing for meaningful snaps at ND will be all but over. I think next year will be the Everett and/or Gunner show, with perhaps Tommy filling in on a limited basis if something crazy has occurred. I'd say there's probably ~ 0% chance Malik plays next year.

Even though there will be 5 QB's on the roster next year (presumably), I like the make-up of the crew-- the experienced, veteran sage; the veteran back up; the incumbent; the super-talented young guy battling to unseat the incumbent; and the talented new guy able to simply learn from it all. Then, the following year-- it will be an exciting crew as well-- 2 very talented, knowledgeable guys with experience, a talented 3rd-stringer who's got a year under his belt, and then probably a talented 4th guy sitting and soaking in.

Then wash, rinse, repeat.

Malik will be redshirted, the only competition next year is between Golson and Kiel... The loser of that battle has a very real possibility of transferring.

Nope. Unless Golson regresses majorly, there will be no quarterback competition in the spring or fall.

Malik is in a great situation. He can ride the bench, put on the weight, learn the system for three years, then step in to replace Golson.

The fact that you guys think there will be a QB competition next year is pretty darn humorous.

The fact that you and others don't is baffling to me. Golson got pulled for Rees against Pitt THIS WEEK for goodness sakes. Golson is going to have to continue to improve to be our quarterback the rest of this year and next year, which is something he is fully capable of doing. I am sure BK hopes and expects him to do so as well. If he does not, however, or if another QB (most likely Kiel) really grabs the bull by the horns and impresses, there is no way that BK won't play him.

The thing I like about BK, even though it can be maddening at QB, is that he has no qualms about taking a kid out if he is not playing the game with the level of detail and committment BK expects. Golson is going to have to keep working really hard to stave off the talent we have at QB both now and in the future. He has to stop missing wide open guys and BK clearly expects him to be seeing, and really improve on his protection of himself and the ball when he runs. If he doesn't do those things, don't expect him to be the clear QB.

If there is not a competition every year for every position, I am not a happy fan.

My guess is Kiel still would have to surpass Tommy before we start talking about Kiel/Golson. Not saying it isn't possible but hard to jump from 4th to first without taking 3rd and 2nd. Tommy will be a senior with tons of experience in big games, no easy task to tell him to move over.

I am not even a Tommy fan. Excuse me while I go disinfect my fingers.
