Mark my words. Kiel will be the backup QB next year and will play during the season... and play well.

Woah... only back up Wooly?! You feeling alright?

Golson and Kiel split reps. Each throw for 3,500 yards and around 30 TDs. Bruce Heggie carries the load in the ground game, toting the rock 546 times for 17,890 yards and 112 TDs. During halftime of the Stanford game, he ends world hunger, finds the cure for cancer, and effectively neutralizes any threat of violence on a global scale. ND goes 13-0 en route to a national title.
A little outside of the topic, but if Golson continues to progress and Kiel stays even remotely close to where you have him on this list he'll most likely transfer. Who'd blame him? With Zaire coming in, who's basically just Golson 2.0, I'm not sure how there'll be room/playing time for all of these guys, which inherently translates to transfers.
My fault, should have made this more clear. That wasn't really intended to be a depth chart for next year, just a list of players at each position. I was doing it mostly off the top of my head and found it easiest to go by class, oldest first. I agree though, I don't see Gunner sticking around to be a 4th string QB

So here's where we're at right now, with the current class of recruits included. If we assume Slaughter, C. Wood, Martin, Watt, Fox, Calabrese all come back next year, and that no current commits decommit (as I did in the chart above), we would be at 83 scholarships in 2013, meaning 2 more available for this year's recruiting class. It sounds like AQM is pretty much a done deal for us, so that bumps us to 84 - 1 spot left. The general consensus seems to be that we have very legit shots at Luke, Redfield, Moore, and Alexander, with some feeling that we are trending up for Treadwell as well. Clearly, we can't take all of these guys (nor will all want to come). My personal opinion is that, in a perfect world, Fox comes back for a 5th year, Carlo does not, and we are lucky enough to add Redfield and Alexander to this recruiting class (along with AQM). What do you guys think?

You cant start a QB battle if the incumbent just won a National Title... right?
I see what you did there. And I'm into it.

Updated it with the mistakes you guys have pointed out from the first round. Still leaves us with 83 scholarships taken for next year/ 2 available. Also want to point out that many of the positions are just guesses, especially for the incoming WRs, OL, and LBs and many of the young safeties.

Where did Tommy go? Just mixing it up here.

Nice depth chart. I think the following players are gone for sure next year:
* Slaughter - unlikely to get ncaa 'approval' for 6th year/medical hardship.
* Wood - ND degree, and NFL pedigree. He has no reason to come back. He has a mid round projection right now.
Martin & Watt are also possibilities.
+ Calabrese gets inv. back for sure. He's a big part of the team's 2 deep.
+ With 5 scholarship quarterbacks on the roster, expect some volatility there as well. Maybe a transfer, retirement, defect, position switch, who knows?
I think ND has 3 scholarships left for new recruits in this class and have the wiggle room to make that number even greater if they need to.

On the chart he is the 4th name under Qb.
That sounds a little wrong considering how reliable he has been as a backup this year.
All depends on the situation next year...
It will be interesting. With him being a senior and having so much experience, I have a hard time seeing Kelly not going with Tommy in a backup role where you need someone to step up in a bad situation. His knowledge of the offense will be such that he would be the guy who goes in there and is so comfortable and gives you the best chance to win. This is Notre Dame. Every game needs to be won. Kelly is not going to put unknown entities in there unless Gunner is really spectacular. My humble opinion.

That is one situation where I see him coming in lol
Other than that though idk
