Good lord people, I said "not much of an upset". I didn't say it WASN'T an upset.

Hell, the BCS forumla has ND ranked higher than Oklahoma. Can't wait to upset y'all this weekend!

And we think you're wrong...why are you getting all bothered by that? If you can't handle it, you shouldn't post on an Irish site.

I'll take Vegas over computers, coaches who don't watch any games, and lazy/biased sportswriters any day of the week. So when Vegas has us as 9 to 11 point underdogs, that's a substantial underdog, especially considering OK's form of late and their incredible home record.

So if you want to say it's not that much of an upset, that's your POV. But don't get all hissy if we think you're full of crap when you say that. It's actually going to be a tough damn game, and i think it will be a pretty big upset of we pull it off.

There's a reason why we're getting so many points (and before you lecture me on betting lines and all that, I know all about them. My point still stands). Other than that, I haven't seen a problem with you here so enjoy the game tomorrow night...

If we can rattle Jones we will be successful. I worry much more about a mobile QB then a statue. I think we get the W in Norman!!

Did not realize that Miami is a higher ranked passing offense than OU (#23 vs. #26 ... it's in the ESPN article NDdomer2 liked above).

That is a comforting stat. After the first drive Miami never threatened us.

Bill Connelly's preview of the upcoming game is excellent. Still predicts a loss, but there's a lot for Irish fans to take heart in.

At first glance, Notre Dame's offensive stats are rather lackluster. The Irish rank 38th in rushing yards per game and 77th in passing efficiency, and while the defense has been outstanding, the offense has scored more than 20 points in a game just twice (against Navy and Miami, two pretty bad defenses).

But opponent adjustments are key here. Thus far, Notre Dame has faced four Top 25 defenses (according to F/+): No. 4 Michigan State, No. 5 Stanford, No. 15 BYU and No. 25 Michigan. Taking that into account, Notre Dame's output certainly isn't elite, but it isn't terrible. Against defenses ranked worse than 25th (No. 36 Purdue, No. 69 Navy, No. 78 Miami), the Irish are averaging 37 points and 484 yards per game. Of course, this doesn't really apply on Saturday: in defensive coordinator Mike Stoops' first year back in Norman, OU ranks second in the country in Def. F/+. So one probably shouldn't expect more than 20 points from the Irish.

This team is improving and the coaches see it. Feeling better about this game. Offense goes for 250+ on the ground w their zone blocking which will gain chunks of yardage at a time. Mark it down. OU D will get worn down late in the game just as BYU did, particularly having to chase Golson. Can't wait. Go Irish, FOU.

I'm a nervous wreck about this game, but at the same time with each passing day I have gained a sense of calming. Perhaps it's my immense faith in our defense. Perhaps it's the scotch. Regardless, I think ND can pull this off, but until the clock says zero, I'll be on the edge of my seat.

Just knock me out until tomorrow at 5..... I can't wait anymore.

I'll tell you what though. Kelly is looking mighty relaxed and confident in that thursday PC. Good enough for me.

I've always wondered which is worse: to be a fan of a team that perpetually sucks (Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland sports teams, etc.) or to be a fan of a team just good enough to tease you with the promised land but choke once you get too close. It's like asking which is worse, getting blown out or losing a close game. Neither one is pleasant but which is worse?

All I can tell you is that after the first few years being "good" gets old. When you have three of the greatest pitchers to ever put on a uniform in your rotation you should win more than 1 World Series. And look at this year, MLB decides to create some new Wild Card play in game and as soon as it was created every Braves fan in the world knew we were going to get screwed in that game. We finished with 94 wins, 5th most in baseball, 6 games better than the Cards, with a 5-1 head to head record against them. We had the hottest pitcher on the planet in our stadium. Of course we lose because we're the Braves. We choke so hard that MLB had to create an additional game just to ensure we choked.

But no team lets me down like my old reliable Minnesota Vikings. It's like clockwork, once a decade they must choke in the NFCCG to baptize a new batch of young fans into the Vikings clan. My baptism was 1998, Vikings vs. Falcons. Best offense in NFL history (at that point), a kicker who hadn't missed a FG all year! In our dome with Randy Moss still in his prime (hell he was a rookie still)! And we lose and of course Gary Anderson misses the FG that would have iced the game. My wife, who was not a Vikings fan growing up as she is from Florida, got her baptism in 2009 watching Brett Favre throw away our Super Bowl hopes in the Big Easy.

As far as pro sports go, people on the business side say that the best way to run a profitable franchise is to have a team that is just barely good enough to get to the playoffs and lose in the first round. That way, you don't spend too much on free agents and you keep your fans interested and in the seats.

It's a terribly cynical way to go about things, but once you understand it you see why certain teams are run the way they are.

IMO this is the biggest game since TA&M in 93'. I don't think a loss kills us necessarily, but a win changes everything. Rankings, perceptions, fan craze, the works.

Am I crazy for thinking that we can stop the run, knock Jones on his *** a couple times, and score just enough points to eek this one out? The closer we get to this game, the more of a shot I think we have. Or maybe it's just the continued IV of kool-aid I've had going since we beat MSU.

If we can somehow make it out of the first quarter either with the lead or just closely behind, I think we will be in good shape. If we can be in a similar position at half (hopefully with a lead) we win this no doubt. Oklahoma knows they will have to jump on us early. They don't want us to be in striking distance heading in to the second half.

Lots of pressure on OU. I was really nervous starting the week out and, admittedly, rather negative in my thinking. I am starting to get really pumped and I think we are primed to win this game. I hope the boys understand they have nothing to lose. Everyone expects them to get taken to the **** house. No pressure. Play your game. Know you can play with any team in the country.

LET' S GO IRISH!!!

any Oklahoma people know if it will be easy to scalp tickets? I'm definitely going but didn't win tickets in the lottery so I don't know whether to stub hub or scalp

SCalping will be cheaper than StubHub, I think.

I think this is the important point. As some of our beloved OU fans have pointed out, their first team D is generally not on the field late in the game. They have never had to close out a game (sans KSU) and therefore may not be in the shape/have the fitness to do it. It will be interesting to watch the 4th quarter and the push our OL gets.

Thank you sir.

Not a problem.

Watching CFB Live today was pretty awesome. My fraternities flag was flying high, the OU fans were out early and super jacked, and they all seemed very welcoming of the ND fans. I wish I could be in Norman this weekend. Looks like it is going to be a great atmosphere.
