I enjoy seeing posts after we beat Stanford like "I'm not worried about Oklahoma, I think we will be fine."

And then seeing posts after the BYU game like "There's no way we can beat Oklahoma."

These things amuse me.

What is mind-boggling to me about OU is the fact that "Belldozer" is so effective when he goes in... The only time I've watched OU was the Texas game. Bell would go in, take a shotgun snap, and run straight at the line. Rinse. Repeat. Four, five yards a carry. I know it helps if your line gets a push in zone blocking, and you have to respect that he may pass, but still? Five yards per carry? Texas' defense is bad, so I have faith that ND will handle Bell when he comes in to run. Now, as for the young corners not getting toasted the one time Bell wants to throw.....

haha i agree. both defenses are nothing like OU has fielded or went to war with. Im telling you guys, our defense is going to be too much for OU. Golson will play the roll of a more athletic QB (Denard, meaning, that when Denard tried to sit back and play QB he stinks. When he uses his athleticism hes productive). We will see more designed runs, and Golson going through his checks with the following options 1. throw the first 2 reads or run. 2. confused..okay just run. 3/4+ yards on first down keeps ND on schedule

They are excited and confident they are going to roll a top 5 team on national tv. They also are having a good time questioning what we've done to be a top 5 team, and say that our only passable opponent is Stanford. They also say that our D is overrated because we've not faced any really good offenses and t think their D is much better because they're holding "offensive powers" to 16 points a game.

EDIT***
I forgot my favorite. They think ESPN is hyping us up and that the national media biased towards us.

Im pretty sure their back up QB will have a few designed runs he is a little bit bigger than Denard it will be interesting to see the results

This is something I'm concerned about. BYU got a ton of yards off annoying scrambles because their QB kept getting through our DL's arm tackles. We need to wrap up Bell when he comes in.

I would be worried about Oklahoma's regular running game because if you guys let that get going Jones will get comfortable throwing the ball in favorable down and distance plays. Still say ND should win this game since ND has the better DL.

That's the thing though, they were annoying scrambles. When Bell comes in, the front seven knows he is running, and will play him like any normal running back. The key is the secondary not getting toasted on a rare pass play when Bell is in.

I'm not sure how to start this...
Y'all haven't watched an OU game yet have you?

Talk crap about B12 defense all you want, but you don't want to throw much against OU. We've seen anything you think you can throw at us in a passing game and we've seen it executed better than you will.

The run and your front 7 is ND's strength. This game will come down to schemes (coaching for y'all that don't know) and player execution. There will be no punching anyone in the mouth and that being that.
To put it simply OU is just as good at what it does as ND is at what they do.

The first one to successfully force the other team into playing their style of ball most likely wins the game.

For ND that means eating up clock and pulling off the win in the 4th quarter.

For OU that means getting up 2 TD's as soon as possible then eating your passing game alive when you have to play catch up.

I'm hoping for an injury free and hard fought game from both teams. I'm sure y'all have seen the ticket prices this one is getting hype.

I would say good luck but i wouldn't mean it.

Regards,
Sooner

Don't see any reason the boys can't line up and play smash mouth football this week and win by imposing their will on OUs defense. This ND team is big, athletic, well conditioned and TOUGH. OU's defense is undersized and soft in comparison to the Stanford D we just went toe to toe with 2 weeks ago. I also see people making a big deal out of Bell and his ability to run the ball. Dudes averaging less than 2 ypc this year and yea has 8 touchdowns, but they're going to need down and distance in their favor for him to pose any threat.

If we can rattle Jones early, I feel very confident. Let's be honest, no team is going to punish us on the ground. It's just obvious its not going to happen against this D.

We know on offense we have to have an MSU-esque game where we can get a big play or two and have 0 turnovers or stupid penalties. I don't see us putting up 30+. 20 could be enough.

Jones is very hit-or-miss. If we can get some early pressure on him, I really think this game is ours. If he gets on a roll, we're screwed. I'm optimistically thinking 20-13.

This is 100% the key to a ND win. We can go through the usual platitudes if you want: stop the run, don't turn the ball over, etc etc.

But the real key here is for ND to get in Landry's head. And it's not that hard. He can turn into a complete mental midget at the drop of a hat.

Confuse the OL, hit Landry early and often, and keep it close the entire game. That's what KSU did...they got a little lucky too, but that's the way to beat OU this year. Make Landry make mistakes, keep it close, and be opportunistic.

Hey OU, this is the first post of yours that I have seen, but welcome. I would love to hear more on what your opinion of OU's strengths and weaknesses are in addition to how you feel the game will unfold.

There are a few seedy characters in this bar, so keep your head on the swivel. But there have been some great conversations between the board and fans from other teams. There will undoubtably be some dummy that says something stupid, but as long as you keep a thick skin, we will be happy to have you here.

Welcome to our humble abode.

our defense is great against teams running the pro-style...but w/ spreading our def out and getting unfavorable match ups is something i am worried about...i know you guys have Stills which can easily get behind our corners and safeties as we are still soo young at DB...but more worried about Brown being a bigger target at like 6'3 going against our DB's...

Thanks for this perspective. I'm a little worried about this game because I think the bolded is indeed the way to beat OU, but that's not the sort of thing we are good at. Our defense succeeds by forcing other teams to execute perfectly; in other words, by waiting for them to make mistakes, as opposed to forcing them. We haven't faced a QB like Landry who is capable of picking a team like that apart. It makes me wonder if we will blitz more and take some more chances against OU and the patchwork OL. Of course, if we can get consistent pressure and get some hits on Landry by rushing only 4, we won't really need to add any creative blitzes and I think we will be in really good shape. The game really depends on the OU OL/ND DL matchup, in my view.

After the KSU loss I felt fairly optimistic about this game, but OU has been playing great football the last few weeks. It looks like a very different game than it did a few weeks ago.

OU is an utterly different team than KSU and prior. As fans, we are confounded by what happened. We looked REALLY pedestrian againt UTEP (!). We turn the ball over a bunch and lose to K-State on our own field...I had written off the season and was paying more attention to tailgating than the team. All of a sudden, we turned it around and we're playing great ball. Might we regress to the September Sooners? Hell, I dunno...I guess we could at any given point.

I wonder when Golson was given the ok to start preparing for OU? I know that he was a "game time decision", but I don't think we are foolish enough to believe that. Kelly had at least a couple days of knowing that Golson wasn't going to play, imo.

In which case, I hope he gave Golson the green light to start watching OU tape and preparing himself for this week.

Also, I hope we pull out all of the stops this week. Let's see more Neal and CBreezy. If there is anything that Kelly was holding close to his vest, then this is the week to open it up.

No doubt he's going to start. To me he is the x-factor for us to be successful on offense. If he can somehow have a stellar game taking care of the ball and making plays, we have great chance of winning. I think it is fair to expect our defense to be every bit as good as they have been all year.

That said, this is our biggest test yet. I am very excited to play OU, this is going to be a lot of fun.

I don't think so ... Kelly said postgame that he made the decision to start Tommy after the Friday walkthrough. He said something about an "88s" drill where each QB runs 8 plays against the #1 defense. Apparently Golson didn't look good in that drill and that was when Kelly decided to go with Rees. So Golson didn't get much of a jumpstart on OU preparation, if any.

But I agree, Saturday may be the time to take some chances and be creative in the passing game. Kudos to Kelly on Saturday for sticking to the game plan of spreading them out in the first half to create space for the RBs in the second half, a strategy we've seen before, but I'd like to put some points on the board in the first half this time. Let's get C Breezy behind the defense and actually connect on one. Let's give Neal a chance to actually make a play rather than just signal for fair catch.
